In fact, I can see no reason to stay with Windows 7 over 10...
Really, I used both and can't see any advantage on keeping 7...

+1, having used win7 - 8 and now 10 I cant see any point in remaining on older versions, win10 functions well and is light and fast for me.

What is the best privacy tool to use with Windows 10?

- O&O ShutUp10
- W10privacy
- SpyBot AntiBeacon

Read the telemetry discussion here: http://forums.untangle.com/web-filter/35894-blocking-windows-10-spying-telemetry.html

Anyone?

I won't use any tool. Do it manually: safer, know what are you doing and, best of all, can return back. Some of the specs automatically changed can't be restored... You'll mess Registry and will have issues with Preview builds of Windows 10, among other issues.

It always amazes me to see this labeled as "Spying" because it comes from Microsoft.
When that same type of technology is used by Apples Siri, it's hailed as a great new tool.

Hi bob3160,

Yep, there is nothing wrong with this. There is only something wrong with people that do not realize this is going on everywhere. This what is going on is not specific for MS, Google, linux or whatever is into this game. It is just people do not know about the 5GB sent back at set-up and the long, long rows of opt-outs and what will be shared with third parties and eventually on demand with other intelligence. It is the fact that they are not aware that when something comes free that they are the product.
You, bob3160, are aware and I am aware and I hope we both are prudent enough to realize these facts everywhere and all of the time. But a lot of folks do not realize that when they are out on Wifi insecure they are sort of "completely naked". So you are getting back the reactions to what you typed into your Google query a few minutes before.

I also agree, however I really don't like the "new" updating process with basically no control compared to earlier versions of Windows

+1 I would like to have some control on how my two Win10(s) get updated.

Win 10 is great on my desktop but I tried it on my Win 7 laptop and it had some issues. For one, boot time was doubled. There were also driver issues. Some of the drivers installed by 10 just were not good. The video driver in particular needed to be rolled back to a 2 year old 8.1 version for everything to work right. This was also in a clean install scenario not an upgrade. It also seemed overall slower than 7 in every aspect so I went back.

No one replied on the privacy tools for Windows 10 I mentioned somewhat higher up and earlier in this thread. It was reported that these could mean destruction to Bing on a Win10 upgrade install or could hamper a good install to such an extent, so that Windows must be resinstallend from point zero. Why no one alerted to such dangers and said that such tools could be dangerous in the hands of those that use them?  :o

Hi DJBone,

Very responsible and helpful to respond here, and I like to mention that for the record, my friend.
At least this is real info to work with when I (finally) decide to go Win10 on my new laptop, when I have junk-cleansed it.
Don't want to ruin half a terabyte to destruction. In some respects I am as hesitant as -midnight here for instance,
and she has won my respect in many ways with some of her considerations.

@ Damien,
There are those of us who enjoy exploring the muddy waters to discover what's new.
There are also those who will wait and wait and wait till the waters clear only to find out
all the good things they've missed with their hesitation. :)

That's a little exaggerated. In my opinion, there is really no reason to be in the Insider program at this time. Unless you want to risk having to start over from scratch due to bugs in test builds. The good parts of those builds will quickly be pushed out in updates to those on the release version so why be a guinea pig? I was an Insider before release day but even then quit it and uninstalled the preview at least a month before release day. I don't use a lot of the new features so I wasn't a good testing candidate anyway. I really don't see anything earth shattering or groundbreaking in the upcoming update either so I can wait. I will update of course but I probably will see little if any difference in how 10 works because I don't use nor care about almost everything that is being changed.
