Yesterday I  installed Classic Shell and Malwarebytes on my computer running win 10.  Ran Malwarebytes and had 58 pup's or whatever they're called.  Most of them showed something about Classic Shell. When it finished scanning I deleted the 58 items, then uninstalled Classic Shell.  Now I have no problem finding the control panel.

PUP = Possibly Unwanted Programs.
The control panel was never missing. :) It's easy to find with or without Classic Shell. :)

I have never had Malwarebytes find anything having to do with Classic Shell. I suspect you have the heuristic settings way too high. The defaults are plenty good enough. I haven't found 58 PUP's in the last 10 years. 30 at the most and they were all actually harmless.

I use both Classic Shell and MBam together (with weekly scans) and have never had anything from Classic Shell attract any attention. ;D

@Damien,
So what's Microsoft doing that isn't also being done by Google, Apple, etc ???

Hi bob3160,

It is the same tendency everywhere and we are out to fend for ourselves,
but did not we know that by now, dear bob3160, and certainly at our age.  ;)

I reported this message only, so everybody is aware and will act accordingly.
There is a batch script for inexperienced users to make Win10 more user-friendly: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3fn46j/i_made_my_own_userfriendly_windows_10_privacy/

So you turn everything off in Windows 10 and then need to use Siri or Google to get your answers ???
Turning everything off also prevents getting much of the information we look for.
It's a personal decision and depends on the individual if they are willing to share some of their information in order to get
pinpoint accurate information when they search for something.
Privacy only exists if you've never visited the internet. :)

Hi bob3160,

There should always be a balance for every individual user. I certainly would not do irresponsible tweaking like you block Windows Update, Windows Defender an the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), just to take the extra, extra most invasive aspects out. Now for every account they know all of your other accounts on all your peripherals and even all on the device becomes predictive. We see cases now that users are traced through their Twitter, Facebook accounts and hold responsible for their utterings. In a free society that is not a major problem, but whenever that changes...  :o
Good Cortana has not arrived in Europe, at the other side of the Atlantic people are just more lenient about disclosing personal information than we are here, but there is also a difference per culture or country.

I would agree with Microsoft and Ed Bott. He usually has all the correct info about Windows. I don't see a need for all this paranoia. The funny part is that every version of Windows (and other OS's) have been doing this same stuff for years. The main difference in Win 10 is that they tell you about it. Do you think they can't get access to your data in Windows 7? Or in any of the Mac OS's? Dream on.
