Just updated to the latest version of Avast on my husband's win 7 computer and noticed it's ready to upgrade to win 10.  Will it take longer to upgrade to win 10 on a win 7 computer than it did on win 8.1?

Would appreciate any input.

It takes a couple of hrs. regardless of which version the upgrade is made from.
Having your current system as up to date as possible always eases the task.
Preparing an image backup prior to the upgrade makes sure you have something to fall back on should something go wrong.

There appears to be a problem with this latest build that effects your registration.
My system currently shows the following:

When you use the Change product Key to enter the correct registration you'll get an error:





The problem is currently being discussed on the Insider forum.
Since I have the needed registration information, I'll simply be patient till Microsoft
fixes their problem most likely by the next preview release build.
