so some days ago i've made backup of my ssd drive
smashed on 'update to windows 10' day before the end
and MS rewarded me  with "display not compatible with windows 10"
yet, gg, i got trolled ... yesterday, instalation complete ... please restart to receive W10...
that's after the offer 'expired' ... well played M$
it auto-resets the timer to restart so after you let PC alone it will auto-install
return to PC, Windows 10 logo stuck in loop
restart via hard reboot ... back to previous OS ...
fascinating ;) error logs nothing of use

Microsoft removes policies from Windows 10 Pro
http://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/28/microsoft-removes-policies-windows-10-pro/
Wow. :o Very bad move, imo. >:(

I had been prepared to actually Purchase Win10 Pro version (when I eventually replace a system) for this very reason its configurability and another feature to block auto updates until a time when I was ready to do so. But that if I remember rightly has also gone down the pan.

They really are taking the urine, seems to be another case of the longest suicide note, part 2.

Looks like an extended period on this old XP Pro system and get win7 Pro whilst I can.

you need to learn that as game developer I see gazillion of reports and issues with Windows 10

so I see no point to rush to them ...

mature and stable systems W7Sp1 an W8.1
unstable ongoing beta W10

and you wonder why people refuse to switch to Windows 10 even for free ?

MS had chance to have system where even Vista users would want it but failed even to get those switch

for me exists only 2 reasons why I would want windows 10
better kernel (especially memory allocations, but I get 90% of that with Windows 8.1)
DirectX 12 (unfortunately MS deliberately locked past systems from it (hell even xaudio2 fixes aren't available for w7/w8)

I've started using all of them as an early beta tester. Disagree with your assessment of Windows 10. :)

I could care less about 'personal assessment' of Windows 10 state  ...
(take it as no offense) it's just that contrary to you, I've got glimpse on "the big data" picture ;)
it's too worry some how many problems are all around the OS vs updates/software/drivers w/e ...

hence no point for me to 'to must have' ...

if I need something, I will get it ... but W10 are far from a 'must have' state

I was just like oh some days/hours to end of offer, let's see if it's install-able ...
it failed ;) I laughed and back using w/e works

well good for you, I was like you when I was younger (ye, you can feel the irony vibe here) with Windows 7 ;)

with windows 10 alpha (insider) testing it was too problematic, I seen my test box get bricked so many times
that even Windows 7 beta was imho less BSODy ...
so at some point I ceased to care ... slapped over back W8.1 on that box and that's it ...

yes, your experience may vary, which is good for you
for someone like me who does IT for decades and the experience is clear ...
if something is unstable and with unclear development update process (including failure to disclose changes)
then deploy more robust, stable solutions ...

@David,
Don't know what that article is talking about but, I have the Pro version and as you can see, I can turn this Off
if I wanted to:
<snip>

It was somewhere around win10 launch that it was stating that Home version would have to accept automatic windows updates. They were saying that this would only be the province of business users, Pro and Enterprise. Home users becoming the beta testers for the then Pro and Enterprise users.

I can't recall, but I believe this was mentioned in a weekly issue of Micro Mart mentioned
However, reading that article was depressing enough without the Group Policy Editor, the essence of the article, that single stroke has ramifications for other things being denied to Pro users would be the province of enterprise users to be able to disable.

Personally I would want to create a Local account and not a Microsoft/internet one so as not to get pushed other cr4p. I just see this being the thin edge of the wedge for personal users.
