This may be a better way to accomplish the upgrade past the deadline:

*NOTE: As yet there has been no indication of when this offer for assistive technology users will expire.
Interestingly they don't say what the hell assistive technologys are.

Like increasing the text size would assist the visually impaired.

Found something that helps clear the mystery, https://www.microsoft.com/enable/at/types.aspx, the list is quite long.

I got the update on both my tablet and my desktop. The desktop updated fine but the tablet had issues. On the tablet, a number of drivers failed to install. These included the touchscreen, cameras, sound, and an Intel Thermal Processing driver. I also noticed in Device Manager that the I2C Controller drivers were not installed. clicking on Update Driver and letting windows search for one worked and the driver installed. As soon as that driver was working, The touchscreen, cameras, and sound  started working. Three other drivers I had to search for by using the hardware ID in Google. After about 40 minutes of additional work after the update finished installing the machine is working fine now.

The desktop was booting and running slow after the update just like when I upgraded from 8.1 to 10. I did the same things I had done then, running CCleaner to delete the old windows stuff and then running the registry cleaner function. Then I ran Puran Defrag in boot mode to defrag the registry which was in 29 pieces and optimize the drive. It's running fine now. I had done a full system backup before doing the update so I didn't need the Windows.old stuff at all. A few of my settings had to be redone but the great majority of them carried over.

Should I disable the Avast shields before I update?
