ashDish ('a' ball) corrupted!
« on: August 11, 2005, 06:51:53 PM »
Hello,

My system is Windows XP Pro newly updated (yesterday) and I am using Avast Pro edition (last update 0532-3) for more than a year (expires Oct 01, 2006). I don't use a firewall other than of XP.

Perhaps it was a mere coincidence that today and after I updated Java (jre1.5.0_04), ashDish.exe stopped running (Blue ball with the red sign) as soon as internet is on. And even before starting the internet connection ('a' ball is blue) it seems that avast files are corrupted in a way or another since the remove/change/repair button (in add/remove programs) is not responding (both in normal and safe mode).

Before I wrote you this message I did the following:
1- I made as 'automatic' the two entries in 'Services' as proposed by Avast help.
2- I deleted all the internet files of IE.
3- I deleted the temporary files in Temp/ directories
4- I scanned C:\ at boot by Avast that found it clean
5- I scanned with Spybot S&D that didn't detect anything wrong.

I like to ask the following in case there is no direct solution to repair Avast files.
Since as I noted above, Avast cannot be uninstalled, is it possible to re-install it without uninstalling its previous files first?

Thank you in advance for giving me any solution or advice.

Avast still can be uninstalled (which is what I recommend at this time) using the Avast uninstall util from the Avast website.

I suggest you do so, reboot than try to reinstall Avast.
See if that solves the problem.

Kerim, this happened for me yesterday, or Tuesday, after updating Windows.
Repair does not help for me.
I can't find any other infection or corruption... I scanned with Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido, Avast, AVG, Antivir... a very deep scanning of the system. Nothing.
After a boot, avast! worked again...

I think if you just run the setup.exe file 'over' the old installation, it could work  8)

Hi Eddy and Tech,

I liked to thank you once again. Avast! runs now normally.

First I downloaded "aswClear.exe" and "setupengpro.exe" from avast.com
By running "aswClear.exe" I uninstalled my previous avast files properly.
Then by running "setupengpro.exe", I re-installed the clean avast files.
