Odd "failures" during remote install
« on: February 21, 2013, 09:57:39 PM »
I've run into this several times now.  I launch a deployment task for a host.  Then I periodically refresh the task to see the progress.  At some point it reports that the install failed.  So I look at the Remote Install Log to see what the cause of the failure is.  This is what I see.

02/21/13 10:27:56:   UTD74312: 0% of setup
I walk over to the host, and the install has succeeded.  I go back to the Admin Console and refresh the task again.  Now it says Done.
I look in the Remote Install Log, and the following lines have been added:
Code: [Select]
02/21/13 10:28:56:   UTD74312: ReadProgress
02/21/13 10:28:56:   UTD74312: 30% of setup
02/21/13 10:29:56:   UTD74312: ReadProgress

02/21/13 10:29:56:   UTD74312: CloseConnection
02/21/13 10:29:56:   TerminateAll
02/21/13 10:29:56:   rinstInstall end 0
So the install was successful after all.  Huh?  Why does it report failed?  Is it a timeout issue?

Another problem I've seen is this:
Code: [Select]
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: LogonUser xxxxxxxx campus error 1385 (Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer)
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: Copying files
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: Directory \\RUKIA\C$\~AVINSTL exists
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: RemoveFolder \\RUKIA\C$\~AVINSTL
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: Copying aswISvc.exe
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: Copying Admin.ini
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: aswResp.dat not present
02/20/13 09:28:19:   RUKIA: Copying setup.exe

The logon was actually successful.  The account being used has admin rights to the box.  And, as you can see, the install actually began, even after reporting the logon failure.

What's that all about?

The error code I'm sure that you encountered was the 0000005 Access denied which is mentioned in the EA Install forum.  This is a bug, as you need to restart the client after deployment, then refresh the console since the client needs to restart before it can communicate to the console.

Thanks, that makes sense.  Restarts always "fix" the problem.

So this error doesn't mean anything and the client installs.. I've just figured out from reading this thread that this is the case.  However, my client that just got pushed out is unlicensed and is not showing up in the Enterprise Console under "Computers with Agent"- it still remains in the "without agent" group.

@it18: You rebooted the machine after the install, correct? I've had a few stubborn ones fail to communicate after a remote installation. My solution has been to remote into the machine and run the standalone installation locally on the problematic machine. Usually, that fixes any communication errors for whatever reason.

I forced a reboot on the install.

This happens to 100% of my pushed installs.

And how about if you manually install Avast on the machine? Does it take the license?
