« on: August 12, 2005, 05:48:46 PM »
Hello I have recently installed avast 4.6 home edition I have noticed when I run cursor over the 'a' globe I get a note saying 'avast! on access- access scanner 7 providers total 6 running ' What  or where is the 7th. provider?
This may be a daft question but a comment would be appreciated.

It must be Outlook Shield, in order to activate Outlook Shield, you're gonna have to run Outlook Express.  If you don't use Outlook Express, ignore it or remove the Outlook Resident provider.

Probably the mail provider that is waiting for you to start the mail application.
This has been explained many times before on this board.
Please use the search option before asking.

I suggest you read Avast's help file and make yourself familiar with everything Avast is offering the user (settings, descriptions etc)

Nope. To activate Outlook Shield, you have to run OUTLOOK.  :P

Thank you for  your comments. I use outlook express but following the advice I have discovered that it is outlook/exchange that is waiting to be started which presumably I do not need ?
Thanks

Right, Outlook/Express provider is for (full) MS Outlook, not for Outlook Express.
I wish Microsoft had chosen a (more) different name for different products :)

That is correct you don't require it.

Check out te avast help file for explanation of what each provider does, there may be others that you don't require.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

If there's any providers you know you don't need, such as Outlook and maybe P2P, go into Add-Remove, select avast and then select Change.  You can then un-tick any unneeded providers which will save a little on demands on your system.

If later on you do want them after all, just do the same thing abd re-tick the ones you want to add.
Intel Atom D2700, 2 gig RAM, Win 7 x64 SP1 & IE-11, Firefox 51.0
(default). 320 gig HD, 15Mb DSL, Win firewall, Avast 12.3.2280 free, SpywareBlaster, MBAM Prem., Crypto-Prevent
