No PrevX, I believe it is still linked to Norton antivirus files lurking in my machine, the searc facility found 4 so I dispatched them to the recycle bin with all due haste, now when I try to reload avast i get an error message saying path to lah de dah alwil folder is not found, so I restored the symantec files, loaded avast again, same message. Not being any sort of competant person on a computer I think I should give it all up and buy a pushbike.

Me too... Like said a lot of times: get rid from Norton is even more difficult than to get rid from a virus.

Do you use any other Symantec product?

No other Symantec products at all, just the remains of System Works 2002. 4 files left on machine, all seem to do all sorts of mischief if I dump them in recycle bin!.

What about the Registry?
I mean, entries for the keywords Symantec, NAV, Systemworks?

Can you post the contents of these Windows Registry keys in your system (if you have them)?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\\VDD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\\VDD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\\VDD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\\VDD
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet004\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\\VDD

Jerry, in my signature, below this message, there's a link to RegCleaner.
Do you have this program ?

If not, maybe it's something to consider.

It's a nice registry-tool and might be of any help.
