RPC Error from Avast
« on: August 25, 2005, 09:03:21 AM »
We have 6 servers windows 2003 with Avast Server edition. After installing all win2003 server update's from the microsoft site. The avast virus scanner stops and displays the messages that there is a RPC error. When I look in services the RPC is running. I tried to start Avast in services but after 10 seconds it stops with the same RPC error.
Does anybody know a fast answere to this problem. Because we don't have any anti-virus protection now.

Thanks!

Michel ???

I don't know much about the server edition, so I can't really help you.
But if you use the search option on this board you will find some other threads about RPC error.
Check if one of them has a (possible) solution for you.

Keywork = RPC
Search only in the avast! 4 server edition forum

I already looked for this kind of toppics but non of these gave me a answere or a solution.

The problem starts when we installed the update's of microsoft and Avast. I've tried to install Avast en install the newest version. But also didn't work.

I'f I don't find a sollution in 1 or 2 day, we have to use another anti-virus progam. This is something I don't want to do but it is the only solution that I see at the moment.

Try changing the "Log On" settings of the "avast Antivirus" service from the specific account you're now using to LOCAL SYSTEM.

We're investigating the problem (obviously related to the MS update) but this has always helped so far.

Making this change shouldn't influence the functionality of the program in any way.

I tried this for my situation....(which i wish someone had of been able to provide me with a solution) - but this has actually made it worse for me, as now it is coming up with ODBC errors and won't actually open AVAST....

this situation for me is going from bad to worse with avast.....

This was the solution for this problem. Strange but it works. The avast antivirus service is nou starting with the local administrator account.
It is the same account only local logon.

Thanks, We now are protected.

Thanks again.
