What is this?
« on: August 13, 2005, 05:58:33 AM »
I just finished downloading & installing Avast 4.6 and in the system tray is a red circle on avast! a-ball icon in system tray and when I click on it, the error message appears saying "the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error". I checked windows update and all updates are installed ok. I followed the repair instructions as given and there are no avast entries listed under services to work with. How do I fix this?

RPC errors in most cases are caused by other AV running or by its remaining after bad uninstallation. Use great search function in this forum. Type "RPC error" and you'll find how to solve this problem. Welcome to forum.  ;)

Do you have another AV installed on your system?
Did you have another AV installed at any time, if so how did you remove it?

Tried the search button located under the header between policy & profile and it returned "no results". Had previously had AVG 7.0 free edition installed. Used uninstall method off of start menu for AVG. What am I missing?

Some AVs leave behind registry keys and other data, even after an uninstall a registry checker/cleaner may find any redundant entries.

A search for "AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error" (with the quotes) returns 2 pages of hits, what were you searching for?
