As this is only happening with Avast, it is likely that they do something that gets our update checks from GMPInstallManager.jsm stuck or makes them throw in an unexpected place.

Just today on Bugzilla, I was asked to disable OpenH264 plugin update checks in Firefox and check for crashes with HTTPS scanning enabled.  I did so and no crash.

I had to disable Add-on Update Checker as that triggers update checks on the OpenH264 plugin, which I wouldn't have thought.

Does Firefox 34 beta have this plugin?  It is installed by Firefox 33 update or clean install.
AMD A6-5350M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 8.0GB RAM, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE11
i7-3610QM 2.3GHZ, 8.0GB Ram,  Nvidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB, Win7 Pro SP1 64bit, IE 11
Common to both: Avast Premium Security 19.7.2388, WinPatrol Plus, SpywareBlaster 5.5, Opera 12.18, Firefox 68.0.2, MBam Free, CCleaner

OpenH264 is something that Mozilla will bundle in with 34. They are focusing on trying to get the H264 protocal standerdised.

@ Goher John,
I'm currently on a different computer. 33.01 crashes after closing FF.
I'm installing version 34 (Aurora) now. will let you know when it's up and running.

It also crashes on today's Nightly build which is ver 36.  The bugzilla report says version 33 - 36 is affected.

I get browser crashes too with the new Avast 2015.

I'm surprised given the huge number of views that this thread is attracting that someone from Avast has not responded saying that they are working on the issue (or even aware of it).

In another thread, the Avast employee said they were unaware of any issue with the HTTPS scanner.

Seems like there is a lot of room for Avast to improve their communication with their customers.

@bob, IE 9 is the last IE released for Vista, and still supported For Windows 7 until Jan 2016.   However, I thought https scan wasn't included in Vista though?

You are correct in your assumption. Can't see your computer and specs aren't listed in your signature. :)

Firefox 33.0.2 does not address the issue. Hopefully 33.0.3 will.
