Harmful webpage blocked even when not browsing the web.
« on: October 20, 2014, 06:13:24 PM »
Hi there, I've been getting pop-ups from AVAST! since last night.

Object: http://rumolottra.com/aa/

Infection: URL:Mal

Process: C:\Windows\SysWow64\svchost.exe

Object: http://debrovorda.com/aa/

Infection: URL:Mal

Process: C:\Windows\SysWow64\svchost.exe

I'm not a computer expert, but I think something's inside my system trying to make a webpage pop-up with my browser. (I use Internet Explorer most of the time and Google Chrome every now and then.)

I've run both AVAST! Scan and MacAfee Stinger and they both say no threats detected. Was hoping someone on this forum could help as I've found posts here with similar issues to my own.

Logs from Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware, FRST, Additional, and aswMBR.exe are attached.

Not trying to be pushy, but wondering if anyone knows what's up with my machine and if a fix is available?

Could you attach a screenshot of the alert popup please

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote
BHO-x32: No Name -> {0E8A89AD-95D7-40EB-8D9D-083EF7066A01} ->  No File
Toolbar: HKLM - No Name - {318A227B-5E9F-45bd-8999-7F8F10CA4CF5} -  No File
EmptyTemp:
CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan.
  • After the scan is complete click on "Clean"
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
FINALLY

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Ok so I downloaded and applied everything, except for ComboFix. AVAST! Keeps alerting me that both the websites and the file downloads are malicious or a virus. I have a good inkling they aren't... but something's nagging at my brain to double check on this stuff. So just want to confirm with you about it, essexboy. After the AdwCleaner did it's thing and rebooted I've gotten 0 pop-ups from rumolottra and debrovorda, but I'll update as the day goes along to see how things work out. AdwCleaner and Fixlog files are attached. Screenshot below.

Sorry if it's a tad fuzzy to read. I don't have any photo-editing software. And Photobucket keeps freezing up when every I try to edit the pic.

Hmm intriguing I am not finding it does this occur in any specific browser or all the time

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

  • Then click on Change parameters.

  • Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature, Detect TDLFS file system  and Use KSN to scan objects , then click OK.

  • Click the Start Scan button.

  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
  • Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

  • Get the report by selecting Reports

  • Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

Here's the report. I ended up transferring it to note pad and then uploading it as an attachment as it's exceeded the 20000 character limit 10 times over. So it's a pretty massive read.

To hopefully save you such a read, I can report TDSSkiller found no threats with it's search and I haven't seen hide nor hair of debrovorda and rumolottra since running AdwCleaner and rebooting the PC. I'm giving it 24h before I'm sure they're gone though. As for when this pop-up would notify me of them being blocked: It was any time. Online, offline, any time. I could be on my home page with no programs opened and AVAST! would alert me that a harmful webpage or file has been blocked. Still, like I said, I haven't gotten any pop-ups from AVAST! since running AdwCleaner and rebooting the PC.

TDSSkiller report is attached below.
