Joooo you are very welcome, and believe me, we all know that language differences and barriers can be very difficult sometimes... but I totally understand what are you asking. It's just, sometimes there is no other way, than to wait for a respond from Alwil guys. I mean, they are the only guys who know exactly "when", "what" and "where"  ;D

I'm sure they will respond some time soon and we all will be informed what's cooking next in their kitchen  ;D I am sure they are about to change some things and we will be informed on time.

Cheers !

Hey, does anybody know when 4.6 build 7xx is coming out? Will there be any new features?

Of course we do but were not telling ;D

With such a small point update 4.6.691 to 4.7.something it would be extremely unlikely if there were any huge additions (or any additions to the current list of providers).

There are a number of threads that have asked this question but information is both scattered and limited. I love surprises but for sure you will hear about it in the forums probably in the Alwil Software Announcements or avast! 4 Home/Pro (beta) forums. It is likely to be released as a beta release, first in the forums.

They've promissed avast! 5 when Windows Vista would be realeased.
But now I'm not so sure... Only great and huge improvements will take the version from 4.6 to 5.0.
Maybe we can expect surprises  8)
In fact, we can even do not have a 4.7, a 4.8 or a 4.9 versions  ;D

I know that because of the way that Vista new User level security works, AVs may/will also to work differently. So the current best guess for Vista release to Gold (retail consumer version) is the end 2006 but I wouldn't like to bet on earlier than the start of 2007.

In either case that could mean a long wait for version 5 of avast! if they are waiting on MS to finalise Vista.

Maybe not  8)
Compatibility could be considered a major upgrade. Other features, who knows?, like spyware detection... who knows...  8)
I think I'm posting more than I should guess  ;D

it will only be a small upgrade so there won't be many changes. I can't wait until avast 4.7 or even 5.0

So if they are waiting on Vista release, it is going to be a long wait for version 5.

Really? That's rather new to me.
I mean, compatibility with Vista doesn't seem a really huge issue to me (to increase the version number more than just changing the build) - so, I'd say these 2 things are completely unrelated.

Ok... maybe I'm in a hurry... But avast 5 was related with Vista in some way...

So, there are a lot of dust in the air... surprises  8)
Even the new U3 version does not have that much publicity...

Could be - but inspiration with the UI style doesn't really connect the release date ;)

Well, it's not officially released yet - as the U3 devices are still not available for purchase. That should change in about a month, I think. (I hope it's not that classified now cause we showed them on VB2005 in Dublin during the last week - and people seemed quite interested!)

What will be the next surprise;D

If I'd tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it? ;)

OK, there'll be a new driver - but that's not a reason for such a huge version jump (at least for me), since the functionality will be probably the same or similar as the current one.

Sure? There are tons of offers in the official website... Are all of them promissing what they can't deliver?  :o  :o

It's published here www.u3.com

eh eh  ;D

What we need for a major version jump?

The official website also says: "U3 smart drives will begin shipping on Oct. 15 from global brands: ..."
I believe the launch was even postponed a little, but I might be wrong.

What we need for a major version jump?

New functionality, for example? :)
Well, I'm not the one to decide about the version numbers, I just think that a new driver, that would provide the same functionality (as it was on the older platforms) for a new OS, is not really a new stuff. Anyway, I think it's not important what the version is labeled - but rather what it can do ;)
