set tvdumpflag=8 in autoexec.bat
« on: October 04, 2005, 01:12:08 PM »
Hello,

After installing the latest version of ZA I noticed that I have now four twvdumpflag entries in autoexec.bat in Windows 98 SE. After the last install I have one more. With this command the environmental variablke "tvdumpflag" is initialized and set to either 10 or 8. If this is annoyang you can keep the last one in your autoexec.bat and put a @ before the others, so they are run but not echoed in that way. It has to do with tvDeBug.log in ZA that is always running, and has to be repaired in case of a computer crash.

Further to polonus's good advice I also recall reading somewhere that the tvDeBug.log file can become quite large mine was 9 Meg before I repalced it this time and 18 meg last time.

If disk space is an issue or just for the hell of it to reclaim some space :D

Using Notepad or any other text editor create a new 'tvDebug.log' which is empty. Now you can copy the  new empty tvDebug.log file to the Windows/Internet Logs folder. You will be asked if you what to relace the tvDebug.log file??  thats up to you ;) You have to have ZA closed to do this.

I have done this many time without a problem

If anyone knows what the tvDebug.log does I'd like to know Thanks

Is this tvDeBug.log only used in Win98SE?
I don't have it on XP.

bob do you have  logging enabled in ZA if you have it turned off I think this is why you do not have a tvDeBug.log file??

I had Alert Events set to off. I've now set it to medium.

I mainly want to see if that starts/stops the logging function.
Since I haven't had it on all this time, see no need for it in the first place.

Hello P3t3rb0nn,

Here is the way to clean tvDebug.log. with CCleaner. ZA starts it again, but then from 0 bytes. Mine now had 8203913. You can read it with FileAlyzer, because normally it won't open, because it is a running process. That is why it has to be repaired upon a crash of Win 98 SE.
 Read: http://forum.ccleaner.com/lofiversion/index.php/t1596.html
The file tvDebug.log is approached by ZoneAlarm's ZLCLIENT.EXE and VSMON.EXE. This is just a logfile needed for debugging purposes. You can delete the file if you close down ZA or after start up close ZA and then delete it. The next start up ZA makes a new empty one. You can either set it read protected if you want to leave it that way, or delete it when it grows over your head. The only effect is a quasi new installation of tvDebug.file but is does not affect ZA. If you cannot approach the process, try Process Explorer (Win XP).
In the newest version tvDebug.file is zipped.

greets,

polonus

I just added this line to my AUTOEXEC.BAT file: :)

DEL C:\WINDOWS\INTERN~1\TVDEBUG.*
