3.  One hand doesn't know what the other is doing.  In this situation sometimes employees do or say things that aren't right.  Usually there are also Marketing people involved, and their sole purpose in life is to confuse people for the purposes of financial gain for the company.  They tend also to confuse the employees.
So we should believe you who seem to always have critical remarks about the product and now the employees ???
You are entitled to your opinion. It happens not to be mine.
I tend to believe what Avast has posted. I base that on my last 10 years on this forum and what Avast employees have
passed onto us during that time.

I believed you.  I'm not sure I believe Martin's statement though...

There seem to be two possibilities to me:

1.  They DID remove it on purpose and they're not competent enough to change a simple form to remove a checkbox that instructs the software to do something it can no longer do.

2.  They DIDN'T remove it on purpose but have a new bug, and for whatever reason are trying to cover it up as an intentional feature...  Which implies what?  That they're not competent enough to fix a basic bug?  That they're not interested in telling us the truth for some reason?

There is a third, distant possibility, which sometimes happens with big software corporations where software development has gotten out of control...

3.  One hand doesn't know what the other is doing.  In this situation sometimes employees do or say things that aren't right.  Usually there are also Marketing people involved, and their sole purpose in life is to confuse people for the purposes of financial gain for the company.  They tend also to confuse the employees.

I'm not sure which of the above alternatives I find more disturbing.  I mentioned the "pop up the UI after scan" bug in my earlier post because it tends to support theories 2 and/or 3 above more than 1.

Hi Noel,

1. is correct, we just forgot to remove the checkbox

I know this message was in Avast for many many years and lot of users is used to it, but also lot of users hated and it was confusing for some users as well. Typically when program was outdated and VPS just updated, then showing 2 messages saying the opposite isn't very good ;-)
Being up to date is the core functionality of every AV and doesn't really need to be messaged twice a day. Imagine Windows telling you that it's up to date ;-)

Have you looked at the following ??? :

That's where you can see if you're receiving updates.
Can can also look for the last VPS update at:

As you can see you aren't missing anything it's just more accurate this way.

All one needs to do now is right-click the avast icon in system tray and select About Avast.  There you will see the current VPS definition version.  Simple enough.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797
 UI version 1.0.788.  Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.2.6105 (build 24.1.8918.827) UI version 1.0.801

How about just putting it back into the hover so you don't have to open and close the program.

Even a last updated time and date would be acceptable in the hover

So we should believe you...
Apparently so - what I wrote has been said to be correct.

But never forget that "said" is not always the same as "did".  Trust comes from a long period of met expectations, and can be lost easily.  This is the day and age of Marketing people ruling what's said, often overriding what engineers did.  The plain and simple fact is that the product DOES have bugs.

Martin, if you're in the code looking for UI settings being ignored, please take a look at the long-standing problem where the UI pops up even though the [ ] Automatically open the Scan Results when scan is finished setting is unchecked.  It doesn't bother me really, but it would be nice if it respected the setting.

Hello,

About Update of the database ...
I thought I understood that the 2015 version had removed all pop-ups? ...

Last night, after several hours of downtime I switched my PC just to check ... .. and surprise .. I got a pop-up Avast .. ???

and I made the shift ... I went to the release 141029.2

So it seems that SHIFT is sent and automatically taken into account on the PC are turned on and connected to the net ...
by cons if the PC is closed ... .. on the next restart is prevented (by a pop-up) that there is a Shift to ...

Can you confirm please?

@ ++!

Hi,

I do understand not having update notifications if they are going to be 200+ times per day - that would be ridiculous however.  I would like to see a popup if an update has not occurred for any reason in the last, say, 2 hours.  That way we can all be confident that we are up-to-date.  In addition to this it would be handy to have just one pop-up every reboot / resume from hibernation / resume from sleep to confirm that an update check has taken place and that we are up to date.

Many people want to see the update popup once they resume their machine before going on to the internet to do anything less than uber safe and this would help a lot.

Cheers,
Paul

Monitoring the thread.

Good to see  8)
Personally, I'd like to see an 'opt-in' option for update notification popups. Apart from anything else, I miss the 'Pirate Talk' announcements!  ;)

Mine wasn't a pirate it was some corny sounding cockney grandma (UK english) that sounded like a sort of female & perverse version of Dick Van Dyke's style of "English" in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Made me cringe every time I heard it.
