On this site it often seems that the conversation gets stalled at a certain point and won't be taken any further.
Isn't it clear that what people are concerned about here is that somehow Avast has ceased being connected with the mother ship and is slowly falling out of date and becoming ineffective?
Since in addition to the streaming updates coming in all the time, of course the versioned virus definitions updates are quite clearly still happening, so would there be anything wrong with restoring the update notifications for those, just as they were before?
That's what the people above who miss the notifications are missing I think. That leads to the warm fuzzy feeling that their Avast installation is healthy and still on the job - i.e., the reason Avast had the announcement in the first place.
Here's another idea - how about a configurable update notification that only comes up and warns you verbally if the software HASN'T been able to contact home base for a specified period of time?
