New stealth virus that changes BIOS?
« on: November 03, 2014, 11:46:43 AM »
Has there been a new threat identified recently that changes the BIOS? To cut to the chase, the Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-HD2 motherboard only allows two choices for boot options. Originally it was either HDD of DVD-ROM. I've had some puzzling/suspicious activity on my computer, repeated scans with various anti-virus and malware programs don't find anything, and the last couple of times I entered BIOS setup the options were changed to three, HDD, DVD-ROM, or RealTek HD Audio. One of the things I did recently was download and install the RealTek drivers. This is a very weird infection. It seems to act at random, sometimes deleting the extensions in my browser, sometimes not, other times changing the browser setting to new page instead of restoring session. It's also eaten part of my hard drive, but I can't tell what used up the previously free space.
