First of all, which provider are you using ? Left-Click on avast! icon in system tray and check your list of providers...
There is no setting to increase the timeout for internet communication inside the provider you're suppose to use... You don't need Internet Mail provider since you don't use Outlook Express... right ?
You use MS Outlook, so you have to terminate Internet Mail provider (if you don't use any other mail client except MS Outlook), and activate OUTLOOK/EXCHANGE provider...
of course you have to do that with your Outlook completely shut down... when you activate your Outlook/Exchange provider, then start MS Outlook...
