HELP!! 4.6 Killing my Outlook 2002
« on: August 23, 2005, 11:51:51 PM »
I use Windows XP and Outlook 2002.  Avast 4.6 (just updated to this version today UNFORTUNATELY) and it is now giving me the following error:  0x8004210A - timed out error from POP server.  I can't send or receive email.  I now have AVAST completely turned off and it is still (Outlook isn;t) working.

I've searched your webforum without success - WHAT DO I DO????  You guys are killing me and wasting my time!!

Ann :'( :'( :'(

With that attitude you won't get an answer that soon... I'm assuring you that no one is killing you, nor wasting your time...  ;) Here you can find people just ready to help and nothing else... and they do that for free, no one force them to help other people, but they do that because they like to help those who need assistance...

Thanks for the attention and consideration (wish I could get that from the avast guys)....however, this doesn't help.  If you search on the MS site for the error code that I am getting (0x8004210A) it will tell you that this is caused by anti-virus software and you must see your specific vendor (in this case avast) for the solution.

I also note that others have had this problem but I don't see a solution prosted....

Thank you,

Ann

First of all, which provider are you using ? Left-Click on avast! icon in system tray and check your list of providers...

There is no setting to increase the timeout for internet communication inside the provider you're suppose to use... You don't need Internet Mail provider since you don't use Outlook Express... right ?  ;)

You use MS Outlook, so you have to terminate Internet Mail provider (if you don't use any other mail client except MS Outlook), and activate OUTLOOK/EXCHANGE provider... of course you have to do that with your Outlook completely shut down... when you activate your Outlook/Exchange provider, then start MS Outlook...

Hi i have looked up the error and it is not avast but whoever you are with for your e-mail account what it saids is The operation timed out waiting for a response FROM THE RECEIVING (POP)SERVER, Avast is not your pop server,so I think you owe someone an apoligy

Forget about apologies and less-tactical words said.
Let's try to work together to see if we can get this one solved so Ann can use her email again, cheer up  :)

Ok and how about giving my advice some space please ? I nicely told her to activate her Outlook/Exchange provider, and deactivate Internet Mail provider since she doesn't use Outlook Express, but MS Outlook... quite difference...

I understand what you mean Don, but let us not be dragged down by it. Let's try to keep the Avast! forum in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I guess she's frustrated by this all and can imagine a bit how she feels right now.
Let's think positive and work together to solve it  :)
