Pretty much what the title says.

I done a system restore on my laptop. Went back on, downloaded avast antivirus. After it updated itself, it restarted my laptop. This is when the keyboard & touchpad stopped working on my toshiba laptop. I ran another system restore as I didn't know what the problem was.

Again, downloaded avast. Shut my pc down manually before it updated itself. Went back on later in the day, upgraded and updated avast - restated pc. Same problem - keyboard and touchpad not working.  I then uninstalled avast, then restarted pc. Problem solved. Keyboard and touchpad now working.

I wouldn't be bothered by this if I wasn't paying for a service.

So how am I able to get avast internet security onto my laptop without it corrupting my keyboard and touchpad drivers?

Define system restore. Why not installing the latest version of avast but a older version first?

What os/sp?
What exact version of avast?
Any other security software installed/running?
Reïnstalled the drivers for the kb/mouse?

Instead of starting another thread on this topic, I thought I'd just add to this one.

Today I have installed Avast Internet Security twice and both times it has disabled my keyboard and touch pad but not my touch screen. I don't have this problem with the free Anti-Virus version.

Seems there is a process to having this work with "paid" versions (have no idea why this would be)....look at last post: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=157941.0
Uninstalled and then downloaded the 30 day trial instead of free and inserted my activation key during install. Everything worked after that.

Windows 8.1
I have purchased the internet security version. I then downloaded the free trial (lowest tier). Then upgraded.
I tried fixing the drivers manually and automatically but to no avail.

Try doing a clean uninstall (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TCCX0R7AAF2WOxAMQ_kcun2nNnCPFAk2P4RBzFXSgds/edit?pli=1) and then follow the steps listed above using the TRIAL version on how others got this to work.....basically..........

There must be a bug with going from free version to paid. Getting the 30 day trial and inserting my key, worked like a charm. Thanks.
