The second 'important' (and only 25kb) iteration of KB2952664 repeatedly tried to re-install after apparently already having successfully done so. I've hidden it now but can't uninstall it. It successfully goes through the motions of uninstallation but it's still there in the list afterwards. I wish I'd never had anything to do with KB2952664 from the start ... no obvious benefit to the user and it's been one botched release after another.

To be more specific, the 'optional' KB2952664 was published June 9th, 2015.  The 'Recommended' KB2952664 was published today.  Microsoft has prior history of re-releasing the same KB numbers at different times as they update the fixes but for some reason released both of them at the same time today.

@ schmidthouse, lucD,

Yes, messed up.  I'm seeing the same, a 25KB update for both after one or the other full 6.0 MB is installed.  Records for installation is now up to seven KB2952664 in installed updates; all were successful.  I uninstalled both and tried installing the June 9th one first, but it did not matter.  Same result either way.  Uninstalling did not remove any entries in installed update logs so the count just keeps going up.

-midnight,

I'd leave this one alone until someone reports this update is working as it should.  I suspect the way it should have went was by having the 'Recommended' update automatically remove the optional version and then automatically installing itself as the newest update.  Which is likely what the 25KB file is for.

Well being this will be wide spread, I have a hunch MS will issue a fix so folks don't see the update reoccurring.

@mchain,

KB2952664 was optional on my win 7 so I didn't install it.

My win 8.1 computer had 2 optional updates which were published yesterday but I didn't install them either.
KB2976978 and KB3065998.

Checked again this morning and didn't have any new updates.

Microsoft has re-issued (version 11?) KB2952664 and I've installed it on the basis that it won't let me uninstall the faulty version so I might as well have the fix. No installation loop or other problems ... so far.

I don't understand why Microsoft publishes these optional updates.  I have one that was published on April 14.
