A.  Make sure you have the latest AvastClear for version 10 on hand.

B.  You'll need to run it without booting into Safe Mode first.

C.  You'll want to run it again in Safe Mode after the above restores rebootability.

Amazingly, everything else seems to work with the KB installed and Avast not.

So I just received a useless reply from Avast tech support about this.  I opened a ticket last night saying that since KB3000850 Windows Explorer freezes, windows won't cleanly shut down, etc. -- until I uninstalled Avast.

I suggested that Avast didn't break Windows, that Windows broke Avast -- but that nevertheless Avast will need to try to fix Avast to remove the incompatibility.

Here's the response I received from support -  I replied and told him his answer didn't help, and that I was not getting a false-positive virus report but freezes/crashes/crap.

Hello,

this would be most probably the new malicious software removal feature from Windows. It is common that one security software is finding the positive threats in other security software`s database which contains samples of viruses, as every antivirus application do. So that is why is not recommended to use two different antiviruses on one machine, because there will be 100% conflicts and it can cause damage of your system. Do not worry Avast is 100% threat clean.

Best Regards
Albert Fiala

How do you do the above in bold ?  .....I'm assuming you can't get into regular Windows or Safe Mode ?

Installed KB3000850 and KB3011780 when they were first released 11/18 and have not had any issues at all.

Win 8.1 x64

I do not have NG or any of the other tools installed.

Suffered the same problems as other users after applying the optional update.

Then after removing avast by using the avastclear app while in Safe mode, the problems have gone away.

Clearly it is a conflict between avast and something that has changed with this update.

Gonna go back to the previous restore point and reinstall avast, hopefully the problem can be resolved soon so that the update can be applied without these problems.

It only happens with windows 8.x.  My Windows 7 laptops work just fine.  There is definitely a problem with KB3000850 and Avast 2015 Internet Security.

What I did was first removed avast.  Then I uninstalled the KB3000850 and then reinstalled Avast and all is working again.  There is a capability problem between Avast 2015 and KB3000850.  Any idea when you will have a fix?

Same problem for me too on Window 8.1 Pro 64bit and Avast Pro 2015. Computer lags, programs not working and computer not being able to restart or shutdown. I removed the update KB3000850 using system restore. Hope Avast or Microsoft has a fix for this problem as soon as possible.

Hi,

I uninstalled it KB3000850. He is guilty as charged. I did and every is working fine, including Avast 2015 Free.

Really the most important update is KB3011780. So, I left installed KB3011780 and KB3014442.

Windows 8.1 Pro w/WMC 64 bits spanish version. Totally updated.

Good luck. Don't worry, do it!!

What I did:
1. Started Windows in Normal Mode
2. Uninstalled Avast AV Free through Control Panel (first time the Uninstaller reported error, but the second time it worked) - it takes a while till the uninstaller appears, so be patient.
3. Rebooted normally - did not work, so hard reset.
4. Rebooted in Safe Mode.
5. Used http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility to remove all Avast software.
6. Rebooted in Normal Mode

I did not re-install any Windows Updates, as the standalone installers for the latest updates are saying that the updates are already installed.

Win 8.1 Pro, 64-bit.

Now using Windows Defender :( but everything appears to be working again :)

Found this out via another site

The 711mb update is Microsoft quiet release of WIndows 8.1 update 3,  Details on this link

http://www.winbeta.org/news/microsoft-has-quietly-released-windows-81-update-3-november-update

So perhaps with them quielty releasing it, resulted in Avast not being ready for this?
