As you could read in post #195, the W8 fix broke W7.
Did the update and restart and got a non-responsive system. Keyboard and mouse not working.
Uninstalled Avast and am now able to type this message.
Will install the latest version of Avast Free and will comment afterwards.
To be continued.....
<edit>
Downloaded the 'latest' version (2015.10.0.2208 dated 10 nov 2014), installed it and my system is working fine.

Hello
I recently recently installed, the updated to the latest version of Avast internet Security, but I seemingly am having problem. I'm currently running windows 7.

Firstly after rebooting for the first time, after installing the update, when PC loaded I was unable to connect to the internet, in any way (This seems to be a common problem). At this point I first tried repairing avast, with no changes. I then uninstalled avast (by un-installing it manually via windows, instead of using avastclear), which allowed me to connect to the internet and reinstall avast again via the websites latest installer. This fixed most problems, except my current issue which is Avast firewall refuses to turn on. At this point I've tried many different things based on many responses to different threads on this website, to no avail. I've tried:
  • Using the repair function to get a clean install of avast
  • Uninstalling via Avastclear then re-installing
  • Un-installing then installing an older version of avast then manually updating that way.
  • Disabling Windows firewall, as to not have conflicting firewalls running, then trying to turn on the firewall after a reboot and repair.
  • Installing Malware Bytes to see if I had any malware on on my PC that could affect the firewall (coincidentally the only PUP it could find was connected to the installer I downloaded from the avast website for my initial re-install) then repairing avast again

Other bits of useful information. I've never touched or disabled EMupdate, the current version of Avast I have downloaded currently is 2015.10.0.2208, the current version aswsnx.sys I have says it's 10.0.2208.722 (the latest one). After of all of this Avast firewall still doesn't work, but all other functions of avast seems to be running normally.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just in case this helps someone . . .

Had the same problem after installing 3000850

I seem to have cured it by:
Updating Avast (program and definitions)
Booting to Ubuntu (14.10)  - I have dual boot of course
Shutting down (successfully) and returning to Win

HP Pavilion 15-b100sj. Win 8.1 x 64. Plenty of 3rd party programs.

I don't know if it was the update or the Ubuntu (or both)

1. So this is not yet fixed?
2. And if it is how can we update Avast or do what it's required?  :o
1. Sure it is fixed.
2. Just reboot your system.

So my  aswsnx.sys driver version is: 10.0.2208.722
I've also rebooted my pc and Virus definitions, does that mean that it is patched? Can i install the update now? I'm pretty scared to do it  :-\

I faced the same problems on 4 machines and all crashed without reason.  After I reinstalled one of the machine, I did a test.  Instead of running auto update, I downloaded KB3000850 and run manually.  Avast blocked because of Infection:Win64:Evo-gen[Susp]... (process:c:\Windows\WinSxS\...\TiWorker.exe).  I've disable these updates until Avast or Microsoft takes some actions.
