Hi, the patched (correct) versions are:

Avast 10:
aswsnx.sys, ver. 10.0.2208.722
(x86: 787800 bytes, x64: 1050432 bytes)

Avast 9:
aswsnx.sys, ver. 9.0.2021.539
(x86: 779536 bytes, x64: 1041168 bytes)

KB3000850 update was for Windows 8.1 only, no problems related to this on other OS's (such as Win8, Win7 etc).
We are applying the patch on all systems (even on Win7), you never know when you'll update the OS, or when the other system also receives the breaking change (unlikely) via its update.

The update is included (online) in the normal (clean) installation on both Avast 2014 (9), and Avast 2015 (10). All the updates are downloaded and applied before the drivers are first loaded. For this reason I don't believe and updated (offline) installer of avast9 is really needed. I'll check it with Release Engeneering team.

Lukas.

Thx....I did not think Avast still posted the Avast 2014 (9) installer ?
If so, what is the link........all the ones I see may "say" 2014/9 but they install 2015/V10.
Also, as you said you do not know about "future" it would be beneficial to have an "offline" (full) installer.
There are many circumstances I can see where a Offline is needed and Online would not be sufficient.

@johhyvang...........If I uninstall Avast I won't have any A/V protection.  I honestly don't know what I should do.

It's only for a short time.
Un-install avast, install the big update for windows, and install Avast again.
In the download and install time for the big update, you have windows defender.

If I try to install the big update and then afterwards have to do a complete refresh on my computer as I did last time I'll cry.  It took hours to do that, then the upgrade to windows 8.1 took hours too.  Did you uninstall Avast from the control panel before using the real uninstaller?

First from the control panl but that didn't work at all.
So i use the un install tool from avast and that worked :)
First uploaded all updates from windows, then a new version of avast.
I know what problems you have re installing everything Midnight  but if you do first the MS updates and then avast, then you wont have a problem.

Not true if you have Windows 8.1.

You have antivirus protection in the form of Windows Defender.  It comes with the system.

If it reports that Windows Defender is off after removing Avast, you can enable it through the Action Center, which is what notifies you that your protection is off.

If you use the tool then yes.
Just restart the computer and before you see the windows logo ( with win 8.X) press and hold F8 untill it beeps.
Then login like you normaly do, and you are in savemode.

Or run the tool now, and avast will do it for you  ( reboot, savemode, uninstall, boot normal).

First it is called "SAFE" mode. :)
Simply put, it is a alternative way for Windows to boot up without all the drivers/etc active.
The theory is any problematic software/drivers would not load and allow the user to "fix" a known issue that they could not in Windows "Normal" mode.
Here is ways to boot up into it: http://www.7tutorials.com/5-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-8-windows-81
Here is also a FAQ that @bob1360 did on clean un-reinstall: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TCCX0R7AAF2WOxAMQ_kcun2nNnCPFAk2P4RBzFXSgds/edit?pli=1
Simply put........download the AvastClear and put on desktop, as well as the latest Avast installer.
Uninstall Avast thru Control Panel in Normal Windows.
Run Avastclear which should then reboot PC into Safe mode and complete.
Once PC reboots into Normal mode I'd create a system restore point....the Windows Update should do this already but I'd make sure with a manual one.  Here is how: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-create-restore-points-in-windows-81.html
Now go ahead and download and install the MS Updates.
Reboot, etc.
Once your system is stable then install Avast.

Do you think it's absolutely necessary uninstall Avast before installing update KB3000850 if Avast is already fully updated?

Perhaps not......it seems most have done it and are OK.
However, the above I listed as a response to prior posters questions on How-To.
It is without argument the most bullet-proof way if anyone is concerned.....but that is your call.

To be honest......when I do a MS Update I disable Avast's Shield, it's Self Defense module and MalwareBytes shields.....update, then re-enable all those.  I'm ALSO on W7.....I have no Windows 8.x PCs.

I run the tool in normal mode and avast shut down my laptop and boot back into save mode.
I couldt not use save mode myself by pressing F8 :(
If one option don't work, use the other  :D
