I have both installed but I'm still afraid to install the big one.

Really, while the suggestion to create a disk image prior to major changes is certainly good, the recent Avast patch really has solved the problems, at least on my own Win 8.1 computer. Provided you have the latest aswsnx.sys, found at "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\aswsnx.sys", and it shows version 10.0.2208.772, your're good to go with KB3000850 "the big one". Having had my computer borked, my personal preference was to uninstall both Avast & KB3000850 in Win 8.1' safe mode, then reinstall KB3000850 and subsequently Avast, by then updated. But I'm ultra-paranoid! I cannot quite understand why you found it necessary to reisntall your computer from scratch, when the solution was much simpler, but I expect you had valid reasons.

I've tried/used tons of imaging products over the years and this is the best one I've found.
Its FREE version is easy to use and very reliable....and very complete for FREE version.
It's recovery environment is easy to generate (burn CD within program) and flexible.

Windows 7 and above has a perfectly fine imaging program already included :)

I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Macrium Reflect is a superb product, especially for a freebie. IMHO it is one of the best-developed pieces of software ever released; it has never let me down.

For me, the update is not working. I have the MS update installed and when I reinstall Avast, problems are back.

I've decided not to install kb3000850 for the moment. I'll wait until things are more clear. It seems that this update is giving lots of troubles and not only with Avast, and as Lisandro said, it's not clear that Avast has solved this issue with his patch.

I've been using Avast for at least 10 years and before installing this latest version I never had to uninstall Avast to install any Windows updates.

If I knew how I would go back to 2014.2021.

How many times are you going to repeat the same thing, we heard you the first time so please give it a rest.

You have not only tried to turn this topic into your own but you are becoming very annoying, you've been told several times what to do concerning an image first and then windows update so please do so and stop being a pest ::)

I believe the issue is ensuring that you have the avast patched driver installed prior to installing kb3000850.

I can't see this kb3000850 waiting for windows update, nor can I see it in the windows Update History, so presumably it isn't applicable on my win7 32bit netbook system. I have the updated avast driver version, should it be required.

And what about new users? The ones already with the MS update?

It's a Windows 8.1 update only.

<snip>

I already answered that previously - the patched driver should be included in the on/off-line installers so it should be present before the reboot.

I don't know what is happening on your particular system, but if this was more prevalent then we would be seeing much more and continued activity in the forums about it.

Personally this question needs to be directed to avast and the two avast team members (lukor and pk) that I quoted earlier in your other post.
