@ -midnight,

No worries if you image your system first.  That way, if something goes wrong, you have something to recover back to exactly as your system was before you ran KB(259)2664.

Unlike the first report, KB2952664 optional installed perfectly this time.  Could be a different KB for Win 8.1, but (259)2664 reported as not found at Microsoft site.

It was installed on my Win 8.1 systems on 7/9/2015.
No problems with the computers if that helps.

Personally, I think this topic really makes no sense.
It makes sense to report a problem with an update.
It makes no sense to question every update that MS makes available.
Imagine having a topic where we question every streaming update offered by Avast.......  :o

There really was a problem with KB2952664, even if you were fortunate not to experience it (I and others were not so lucky). Microsoft recognised the problem by releasing a fixed version on Friday, which installed on my system without hitch. I certainly find these threads useful.

I agree.
And as I mentioned earlier the problem was widespread (albeit not that serious) and in the past it has not taken long for MS to offer a fix. :)

These threads are very useful....in fact was not that long ago Avast had a compatibility issue with new MS update and the fact it was posted on this Forum kept many folks from a lot of pain.  I do agree we shouldn't have to check every MS update but seems for past year the need to do this because of MS borking things up has increased...not decreased.  Of course, if you don't find it useful no need to read and post.......but like a scary movie just can't help but watch. (read). :)
