If it is a PAID version not FREE you are looking for and you haven't kept the 2014 installer on flash drive etc, you may have a problem. :-\

After updating to Avast 2015 I rebooted the computer and everything froze up. I cwas unable to click on anything and hovering the pointer over the taskbar gave me an hour glass. After about ten minutes I rebooted the computer and then received a message about secureserver VPN not connecting properly.

Then a family member inquired about what was going on with the computer and then went into a screaming rage, accusing me of wiping out the entire hard drive and claiming that it was all my faullt because I updated Avast and never should have updated because it always causes problems with the computer.

The reason I want to downgrade is because it's the only way that I know of to deal with this family member without things getting seriously out of hand.

Never let that family member even near your system again.
You mentioned seeing the taskbar, hourglass and such, that means the drive isn't wiped.
That family member has no clue about what he/she is doing.

Scroll down to "If you cannot  Boot the computer" and follow the instructions.
