AVAST deactivating itself
« on: November 27, 2014, 06:26:23 AM »
My Avast Internet Security was automatically renewed 10/10/14.  Everything seemed to work fine until today.  When I got home from work and tried to get on my computer, the screen had an Avast error window stating that my license had expired and I needed to renew and that my computer was not protected.  I tried to get online to pull up my renewal confirmation email and although the firefox main page would load without issue, any other web address I tried to go to would say that the connection had been reset and was unavailable.  I restarted my computer and now Avast says "everything is good" and I am able to use the internet.  Do I need to be concerned?  What caused this?  I am using Windows XP on an ancient desktop.  I now XP is no longer supported, but my computer has been functioning fine up until this point and I am not in a position to invest in a new computer; especially when this one is still functioning.  Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Hello, thank you for your help.  I did as you instructed and it seemed to work.  However, the same thing happened again today.  Why does this keep happening?

When I did the repair just now, it went through the steps and then said there was an error while changing product configuration.  "Process finished with exit code 1 (0x00000001)[incorrect function]

I have used AVAST Internet Security for the last 2 years on this computer, just renewing every year.  I had a nasty virus and computer was cleaned and repaired at a shop a that time, 2 years ago and I installed Avast when I got it back.  Avast is the only product I use.  This is Windows XP Home Edition 2002, Service Pack 3, if that helps.
The icon on the task bar at the bottom of the screen says "system is secured," but when I open Avast, it again says the license is expired, I need to renew and am not covered and my daily scheduled scans will not run.
While trying to repair Avast, I just got the  message that windows is low on virtual memory and is being reconfigured.  Does that have something to do with it?

Thank you very much, I appreciate your help.

1. Download Avast Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

1. Download Avast Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Okay, I will try that.  Will this affect my computer outside of Avast?
Thank you!
