You don't say what avast version you have - given you are asking how to transfer your account software - I take it you mean your avast installation and license.

Well first download the avast version you are using and save it to a USB stick.
Free AV: - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Pro AV:  - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
AIS:     - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
Premier: - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe

Find your avast license file, license.avastlic where you saved it to (you did save it) and add that to the USB stick.

If you didn't save it - use the Resend avast License http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php, you will need to enter the email that you used when purchasing the license, e.g. the one that the original email with the link was sent.

Uninstall avast from the old system.

Transfer the files you saved on the USB to the new system:
Install the avast version and apply the license as before.

Thank you very much.  I just read a disturbing article about problems with Avast and Windows 8.1.
Should I be worried????? :-\ :-\ :-\

Rather depends on A) the avast version in the article, B) the windows version as the latest would be windows 8.1 Update 1 (if it is 32bit or 64bit) and C) what the problem was, etc. etc.

hi,
I've been reading up on instructions to transfer the Avast license from one machine to another.
I have uninstalled the Avast instance on my old notebook.
Installed Avast on my new machine and tried to upload the license file.
However, I continue to encounter errors uploading the file.

If I try to register from the Avast software itself, it gives the error - "Unable to insert the license file. The license file does not contain any valid license."
OR ..
"The license for this product is invalid or banned.
For the version you are installing, there is a feature missing from the license file."

Can you please advise what else I need to do to install Avast on my new notebook?

Hi,

It is - Avast Pro Antivirus - 1 PC, 1 Year .

The license was auto-renewed just 2 mths back.
I have tried installing the Avast Pro on my new notebook and encountering the error (mentioned above).

I tried installing the FREE version and then upload the license but that didn't work either.
