Hello and first of all sorry for my wrong english spoken. :-[

I recently tried to use the "rescue disk" tool that comes along with avast! 2015. This tools creates an ISO file which is approximatly a 200 Mb size file into "My documents" directory. In addition to that, i noticed the very long time that avast! used to download this file. It's because of a second file that avast! download and which is about 992 Mb size  :o into this diectory which is a different place from the previous ISO file :

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\Setup\AvastPEToolkit

In this directory, do i really need such a big file from Microsoft in order to use the Rescue Disk tool from avast?  :( If not, what's the right way to properly uninstall it? Simply delete it with no uninstallation tool required? What leftovers will still remain onto my computer? ???

I'm sorry to tell you that Sir, but i can't understand this way to let people into ignorance about some functionality into avast! Don't feel offended Sir  :) , but i find this is a bit not serious. It's just like "Take this and manage with by yourself"... I'm telling this because i didn't find any clue and about how to keep/delete/uninstall this annoying and huge file from Microsoft in this website page :

http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB114

So please Sir, can you bring me some answers about this file? And what about deleting it?

Best regards. 8)

No, you don't need it to use the Rescue Disk tools,
but you do need it to create a rescue usb/cd/dvd.

avast provide the tools, but they need a bootable os to work.
That is what that file is for.

But i need more information please, because like i said in my first post, i'm totally ignorant with computers.

So, how to remove this annoying large file ? Why avast! team doesn't explain decently things about this file, especially how and why to remove it, what leftovers into my PC about this file ? Any uninstallation tool with this file ?  ???

You see, many questions which avast! team doesn't provide any clue or instruction to manage with. Why  :( ?

Any answer is welcome, best regards. :D

Same here, and it's happening now.  The iso download to make the Rescue Disk is huge.  I think it's bigger than the downloads for Win 7 or Office themselves !!!

What is this?  And what can i delete after making the CD?

It is the Windows PE and needed (as already explained) to create a bootable medium so the tools can run.

And yes, you can delete it if you don't need it anymore.

Eddy - do you know what folder(s) that might be, or what PE looks like in terms of file names?  It's not in my "Downloads" folder

What is downloaded can easily be found.
Create a list of files/folders before and after you have create the disk/usb and compare them.

I just deleted the 1.45 GB AvastPEToolkit folder on my Win 7 system. It should be noted that Avast self-defense module needs to be disabled before you can do this:

Avast > Settings > Troubleshooting > untick appropriate box

Be sure to enable the self-defense module when you're done. :)
