Avast finds trojan-gen32 that symantec didn't
« on: September 08, 2005, 06:41:59 AM »
I run avast 4.6 with symantec 2003 without system conflicts (avast auto-disables a few product features that are'nt compatible with symantec). I recently obtained a few zip files from an untrusted site and checked them with symantec (updated as of 7/sept/05)...all clear, however when I double checked with avast 4.6 it discovered 3 trojan-gen32.exe viruses. Good work to the avast team, I don't know how the ever-reputable symantec managed to brush over those bad boys. Thanks to the techies and programmers involved (even the D-base ones).

Some people never learn, like the saying you can lead the horse to water but you can't make it drink.

That not mean that they are real virus. Generally trojan-gen are false positives

Generally, that is not strictly correct, a poor generalisation, even if you find that to be the case it is the exception that will get you if you take that assumption. Move to chest and investigate should be the course of action.
