High CPU use during downloads + breaks internet connection
« on: December 18, 2014, 02:55:43 AM »
Hey,
since my internet connection has been upgraded (50 mbits download) I've been encountering some serious issues with Avast.
When I download bigger files, usually >200MB, Avast will often start to use 30-50% CPU, slowing down my PC significantly, and will also completely bog down my internet connection so much that Firefox fails to load webpages and the download just stops midway. The only solution I've found so far is to disable it completely while downloading anything which of course isn't exactly what I like to do.
I've already tried restarting my PC and even reinstalling Avast from scratch, nothing changed.
Avast Version number is 2015.10.0.2208
I'm using Windows 7 32bit, Intel Core2Duo E6750 2.66GHz, 2GB RAM

Disable only the webshield and see if the problem is solved.

Deactivating only the web shield fixes it, but when I try to start it back up afterwards I just get an error message until I restart my PC.

"The following components could not be started: Web Shield"

I know quiet a lot of people (including me) are having problems with the webshield.
Unfortunately I have no solution for it other than disabling it.
The same problem appears on XP/Vista machines, so I know it is not the https scanning part that is causing it.
Let's hope that avast comes with a update that solves it soon.

Ok, is it possible though to prevent Avast from scanning downloads from a particular site? I put *.youtube.com* and *.googlevideo.com* into the exceptions, but it's still going ham when I download from YouTube.
That would at least mostly fix it for me since most bigger downloads are from there.
