Antitheft malfunction driving me insane
« on: December 23, 2014, 11:33:10 PM »
I was using a Samsung Galaxy S3 Phone until today and I switched over to an LG Pro Lite. I moved the SIM card from my Samsung to my LG, and when turning on the Samsung to retrieve some data, the phone started a siren as if it was stolen. I'm trying to send an SMS to my First Friend, who is not receiving anything. The only solution is to pull the battery but upon re-starting it, it goes insane again.

I've tried to modify settings from the webpage but no "commands" take.

I tried to call Avast support but they didn't help. I submitted a ticket and got no response. I need to unlock and then uninstall this app.

Help me please!

It is not a malfunction as you should have known if you read the manual.
You removed the sim and did not perform the steps needed.
Don't blame it on avast when you are at fault.

I had actually forgotten I'd installed it, so, yeah, it's my fault. Now, is there a way to stop it?

Now, all that about it being my fault is all well and good, but:

- I finally managed to send the SMS to my friend, he gave me the code, and it didn't work.
- I tried to modify the settings remotely using the Avast webpage, but to no avail. i have loads of "Command timed out" on the Commands section of the Info section under the specific phone on the webpage.

Can anyone please help me with this?

For those reading this that do care or have the same issue:

Avast CS never replied to me. The only reply I got at all was earlier in this thread, someone blaming me and not helping me.

I finally fixed it by repeatedly rebooting the phone (pulling the battery) and getting into the Settings and removing the check from Avast AntiTheft under Security / Administrators, and then uninstalling Antitheft and Mobile security (I performed a Force Stop on them before uninstalling just in case). So far the problem seems to have stopped.

The lack of response (apart from just blaming me) on part of Avast and how badly the webpage worked, etc, has made me decide never ever to use their products again.

To be fair, CS has finally replied to me today, but it was way too late for me. I do understand all of this happened during the holidays, but still, most companies' customer service department has some sort of coverage during these days.

I did appreciate their contacting me, but it was too little, too late. Plus, they suggested my trying stuff I'd already done, like going into the non-responsive website and trying to enter the Friend sms code, which I had already tried and hadn't worked.

Still, at least they tried, instead of just blaming me.

Sorry to hear your troubles, sometimes these things happens; first, the siren could be turned off, but first you have to pair the device with your account on my avast web. As I understand, you moved your SIM from one device to another, trying to send a command from website to it, but it did not work, as the device has not been paired or, most likely, there was not internet connection available, so the command from the website has no chance to pass through. Also sending the code from locked device which has no SIM inside will fail. The right thing is to get SIM back to Samsung, insert your PIN, turn off the anti-theft and back up the data and applications. I know that this is too late for you, but may be it helps to anybody else..

My PIN is even not working. Likewise I had to get other password to get through my.avast.com. So when you really need it, nothing is working. My sirene is still blowing it out load. Neither have I get any reply from Avast, likewise on the phone told "can no help".
My friend never has got the new PIN while in my.avast clearly is written the phone of my friend.
So, at the end nothing is working and I am still stuck with a blocked phone.

Did you ever get this sorted? I'm having similar issues and am trying to avoid a factory reset (partly because I'm not sure this would work).

This does not help at all with this problem.

I had the same problem with Moto XT890 - got new phone, forgot about Avast Anti-theft, removed SIM to put in new phone, just to see if new phone worked OK. I know my anti-theft PIN so I wasn't worried - UNTIL I SAW THAT THE UNLOCK PIN BUTTON WAS GREYED OUT AND NOT FUNCTIONING! AAT would not allow me to do anything. I could not even power off the phone, therefore, re-installing the SIM had no effect and, of course, no network connection meant no SMS commands or anything could be done. The only option AAT gave me was to send a recovery PIN to the alternative phone number I had set up. Anyone spotted the big issue here? No network connection without SIM.  :-\

For those that don't know, Moto XT890 is one of those phones where the battery cannot be accessed or removed. So, I could not power down and up the phone with the SIM back in. This meant I had only one option; take the phone to a specialist to dismantle the battery at great cost and be without the phone for many days.  :-[

In last ditch desperation I started tapping on Avast dialogue and found, to my surprise, that I COULD enter the PIN. You have to tap on the title "Avast PIN" not the button "Unlock" in order to enter the PIN! Great Avast. Well thought out.  >:(

Is any of this in the manual buddy? Why is the button to unlock the phone greyed out? Why is there a function to send recovery PIN to another phone when there is no phone network connection? Why doesn't it try to use the Wifi to send something in this case?
