DNS queries flood generated by Avast
« on: December 18, 2014, 12:02:33 AM »
Product: Avast free 2015 on Win7
After an investigation with Wireshark and ProcessMonitor I found out what makes my router (Netgear DGN2000) crashing some 30/40 minutes after my computer boots.
The process AvastSvc.exe performs about 3000 DNS queries in 10 seconds. After that the router freezes and I have to switch it off and on.
I found track of this insane activity in the file C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Hds.log:

2014.12.17 21:34:05 | LoadConfig: user-password pairs successfully loaded
2014.12.17 21:34:05 | LoadConfig: domains list successfully loaded
2014.12.17 21:34:05 | LoadConfig: cgi-bin list successfully loaded
2014.12.17 21:34:05 | StartInsideScan: mask=0x00020020
2014.12.17 21:34:05 | SetOsVersion: 6.1.7601.2.Service Pack 1
2014.12.17 21:34:24 | DnsQuestion: 'gmail.com' failed [status=12]
2014.12.17 21:34:25 | DnsQuestion: '4shared.com' failed [status=12]
(...  3000 more lines ...)

Is there a way to disable this behavior ?
Thanks in advance.
