I got a like-new Windows 7 laptop for Christmas, Some pre-set up had been done before hand, And I know Avast can be trusted, So when it asked to update, I let it. Since then, My computer gets about 5 minutes into log in and freezes. The mouse moves and the screen kind of responds, but I cannot close, open or DO anything. I even have to shut down with a hard reboot. this is especially frustrating because I was given this laptop specifically to work on my writing, and install my bamboo art tablet, and I have been unable to do so. Please help.

Did you remove any factory installed AV before installing avast?
Did you run that vendors removal tool   https://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
