Avast (Free) Secureline VPN problem.

I am running OS  Win 7 64 Bit,
Avast 2015 (Free)
Malwarebytes Anti Malware Premium and
Windows Defender

I recently updated to the Avast Free 2015 version 2015.10.0.2208 from the previous version.

Since then when I start my PC every morning alongside the icon for Avast I get an icon in the System Tray with a red x on it. I have found out that this relates to something called 'Secureline VPN' and I'm told that Secureline VPN has encountered a problem…

From research done I believe this is a paid for part of the program and I have not asked for it nor paid for it so that is probably why I am getting this warning but I would like to get rid of it.

Anybody any suggestions please…

I decided to uninstall Avast and do a fresh install. I was very careful and did a custom install as I didn't want all the stuff that's bundled into the programme now and unchecked almost everything.

Nowhere did I see anything, and believe me I looked, about the Google Chrome Browser or the Google Toolbar being offered so to say I was surprised when during the install I saw that both these items were being installed is an understatement.

I am a big girl now and if I want items like this I can get them on my own I don't need them foisted upon me in this underhand way.

I don't usually speak in such terms on forums but this really annoyed me. I know they can be uninstalled but I shouldn't have to be doing this at all.

Sorry to say that it was an oversight but, it's also very well disguised. (sorry  )
At this point, just remove Chrome if it's not a browser you use.
I have Chrome as a default but also have Firefox, IE, Opera and a few others installed.
(Can't help with a browser specific problem unless I have the browser at my disposal.)

I have since learned that it is indeed my mistake and that despite all my efforts I missed where I could have unchecked these items before installing.

If I can shoot my mouth off to complain it's only fair if I come back and hold my hands up when I discover that I was the one in the wrong. I'm sorry.

I still don't agree with the sneakiness of companies in doing things like this but it's just another lesson to be learned for the future.

I can't argue with you. I would also prefer that you not need to uncheck anything but rather decide if you want something then select it.
We all just need to learn to be more vigilant and install other programs to help us in that task.
