Avast Vbox and how to disable it
« on: January 07, 2015, 07:21:04 PM »
Hi all,

I have been using Avast for many years and have been a totally satisfied customer.

Recently my PC has been exhibiting strange behavior.
basic system specs are:
I7 2600k OC to 4.5GHz
16GB RAM
2x 240GB SSD RAID0 for boot
2x1TB 7200RPB WD Black RAID1 for data
Win 8.1 Enterprise

At first boot, I cannot connect to the internet for about 5 minutes or longer sometimes.
My C Drive utilization is pegged during this time at 100%
D Drive is 0-5%
Ram is using about  3GB
CPU about 10-15%

The process that is using the C Drive is the avast vbox
I am also getting tons of DNS errors in event viewer.  I have done a ipconfig /flushdns and do not see any change.

After about 5-10 minutes, the C Drive goes back down to 0-5% and i can then open web sites and games work fine.

This behavior happens every single time I boot my PC.

I ended up uninstalling avast last night and the problem completly went away.

I read about the sandboxing feature and feel that for some reason, this is causing my issues.

Can I install Avast so i can get my full weekly scans, and basic web monitoring, but not run the sandboxing feature?

Let me know

Thanks
Brian

Yes do a change to avast from control panel > programs and features
Remove the tick from NG and follow the prompts
