Do you read Hijackthis?
« on: January 12, 2015, 03:08:24 AM »
I have a refurbished laptop, and I'm not having any problems; but I run scans weekly of Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot Search & Destroy.  And I remembered I also had a program on my old computer called Hijackthis.  Do you read Hijackthis logs?
If so, here is the log I just ran.  Is there anything I should remove on it?
I want to keep my computer healthy.

Hijackthis is outdated and no longer used to analyze systems.

Follow this tutorial and attach ( do not copy/paste ) your logs:

I downloaded Farbar Recovery Scan Tool 32bit & 64bit and tried to run them both,  but warning from avast (as little screen at bottom of computer) said:

FRST64.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.

I did not want to run it, until I checked with you first.

Hi  Barb711,

That is nice, let us go back in time, so for what it is (still) worth here is your HJT logfile evaluation:
*   MSIE: Internet Explorer v11.0 (11.00.9600.17496)  is out of date, update to a more recent version of IE/ check windowsupdate!
Check unknown processes like: C:\SmartDraw Photo\SDPhotobar.exe;    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_16_0_0_235_ActiveX.exe;
O20 - Winlogon Notify: SDWinLogon - SDWinLogon.dll (file missing) - unnecessary...
That's all.
Now wait for a qualified remover to give an interpretation of the demanded logfiles you produced and eventual help and follow their guidance,

polonus

P.S. Nice dog there  ;D

FRST is a safe file so you can allow it to download

Spybot isn't the preferred choice anymore.
Nowadays it is MBAM.

A more modern alternative to HJT is FreeFixer, see: http://www.freefixer.com/
FreeFixer is freeware and Windows 2000/XP/2003/20008/Vista/7/8/8.1 compatible.
FreeFixer runs on both 32- and 64-bit Windows.

Hi looks nice and clean...  I would not recommend using a reg cleaner though as it can cause problems

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote
CreateRestorePoint:
SearchScopes: HKU\.DEFAULT -> DefaultScope {0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A} URL =
SearchScopes: HKU\S-1-5-19 -> DefaultScope {0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A} URL =
SearchScopes: HKU\S-1-5-20 -> DefaultScope {0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A} URL =
EmptyTemp:
CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
