Little Question about scan report file.
« on: September 15, 2005, 04:05:16 PM »
Hello to all  :)

I have one little question.

In the folder C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report I have one file called Simple User Interface.txt
Yes I know that this file is used for storing scan reports, but now comes the strange thing - the file is about 77MB  :o
And everytime when I try to open the file my Notepad crashes.
This isn't normal, is it?

P.S. > I am using the Bulgarian language pack, thats way in the attachment the file name is in Bulgarian.

It is perfectly normal that Notepad crashes. Notepad can't handle such large files. Try Worpad, Word, Worperfect, StarOffice or OpenOffice.

OK thanks Eddy :)
I've opened the file with WordPad.
But I still wonder if there is a way to clean this file, because 77MB are a lot of space?

It's normal that the file be so big if you check the 'OK files' into Report settings and you have a huge number of files in your computer.

Won't this damage something in the program?

I don't use this option.

No, a new log file will be created when you scan your computer.

It's normal that the file be so big if you check the 'OK files'
I don't use this option.
So, the problem is that you 'append' the report and does not replace it by a new one.
There is this option there.

Tech just beat me to it, I got that "another reply has been posted" thing as I was about to throw in my two cents.

While it's remotely possible that you could get a report that big from a single scan, he's right that you're mostly likely appending reports to each other.  Go into Program Settings/Report File (or, of course, Bulgarian equivalent) and there's a tick-box to overwrite previous reports rather than appending to them.

Under rare circumstances when you're trouble-shooting you might want to see a "history" of several scans, but most of the time you'll only want the most recent one.
