How i have to do it in this file at section "MailScanner", if i have some more then one e-mail-accounts in thebat?
I never used TheBat and so the avast! plugin for it.
But, as far I know, you can use (like MS Outlook/Exchange plugin) any email accounts as you want.
The email listed in the [MailScanner] section is the default one, not the only allowed one.
If I'm wrong, I wish somebody from Alwil to correct me.

Question:

What's the difference between ResidentBalloonShown value into UserInterface and ShowTaskbarIcon into AAVM section?

(Without checking the source), I'd guess that ResidentBalloonShown specifies whether the baloon tooltip, displayed only once right after you install avast!, was already displayed, wheras ShowTaskbarIcon simply controls if the usual (possibly spinning) icon will be displayed in the tray...

I have installed Flock Browser but it isn't supported in Web Shield.

I have tried to find avast4ini file but am unable to.  I looked in here e.g. C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\avast4\Data)for the  avast4ini file as I believe this is the default setting
But i cannot find it?

If it is possible to add Flock to the Web shield by using avast4ini file?

I have read all the posts in this topic here and can't see how to do it.

If it is possible could someone please show me here what to do?

I am not the sharpest tool in the shed so please bear with me.
I am using WindowsXP SP2 with all updates.
If I have to disconnect Thanks in Advance.

Cheers

The file (avast4.ini) is in the Data subdirectory of avast! installation folder. If you can't see it, you may have Windows Explorer set to hide known file extensions.

Copy avast4.ini to a different folder, that way if you stuff up you have a backup which you can copy back. It is just a text file, use notbook or you text editor of choice to make the edit.

Which is the correct one, .ini files are configuration files (how the program is configured).

If you don't then you lose the additional protection of the Web Shied provider, it really isn't that difficult to edit.

Hi DavidR and  igor

I feel like a Dork not realizing the  avast4.ini configuration settings, was the one igor was mentioning. (avast! installation folder)

Also thanks igor the problem was what you said I may have Windows Explorer set to hide known file extensions.

Yes I agree with using Web Shield as I won't use Flock to I have added it to the avast4.ini now that i know where it is. ;)

Did you test it? Does the counter of the scanning objects increase when you browse?  ::) ???

Can you post your avast4.ini file here? Or, if you prefer, send it to me by IM for analysis.
If you want, delete any personal information there...

prior to any edit of .ini files I always(~try at least?~) copy & paste to get a ~copy of~ as this is the easiest? way to get back to where I was ;-)

the system restore savepoints are good to fix ~some~ configuration troubles as well  ( if using XP or ME )
