Regarding the modification of the avast .ini file.

In particular I'm interested in adding a larger value for triggering a "compression bomb" message form Avast.

I've found that portion of the thread but am uncertain what (if any) multipliers are in play already.

If I add MaxFileSizeToExtract_Scanner=500000 is that 1/2 meg as it looks?
Or are we talking k's or meg's already, which would make it 500 megs or 1/2 gig here?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to change the settings for decompression bombs. So, I tried to locate the section [Scanner] within the .ini file as suggested. However, I could only find the sections named, [WebScanner] and [MailScanner]. I think the difference is that I am using a different version of the softaware and not the one here since I have VersionLabel=Feb2006. So, my question is: How do I change the related settings with decompression bombs and whether I  should really change it? I am asking this since avast! is unable to scan some .avi and .rar files that I have downloaded although the previous software I was using, i.e. N....n, was capable of scanning them.

Thank you for your time and interest.

Best

Ali

Manually add the corresponding section and values, like stated in the first post of this thread.
Open avast4.ini file and add the section. The name of sections did not change between versions updates. Different sections and values have different names.

Pffffffffff,

why doesn't work my on access demand?
It probably has something to do with changing my database in XML, because it is since then that it has a 'Stop'sign
By the way, nothing ODBC to be seen there in avast4.ini , it was SQLT, but I changed it anyway.
Since my on access didn't work after that, I uninstalled it, and downloaded the latest version.
My database is now again SQLT, my virusscan works, but still no on acces demand.

Please Help !!!!!

Since version 4.7.807 a new data storage called SQLT is used by avast!
Which version are you using? Which is your operational system? Do you have any other antivirus in your computer?
This does not seem to be the right place for discussion, maybe you can start a new thread about your problem  ;)

Are there any way of editing the ini file to make the resident protection actually clean the infected files that it finds instead of just reporting to me that it found an infected file? Coz I'm getting sorta pissed off that after a 2 hour of scanning & cleaning out Brontok from my system that the damn virus can still continue to infect my system thru my network connection & the resident protection just reports that it detected an infected file but just leaves it there & does nothing about cleaning it.

Better, like David said, is looking in other thread.
Anyway, to clean a replicant infection (coming and coming again), you should:

1) Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5BLN%5D;310405
2) Clean your temporary files.
3) Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
4) Use a-squared or ewido (trojan removers).

1) Disable System Restore on Windows XP
Done this.

2) Clean your temporary files.
Done this.

3) Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
Trying this now, will reply when it finishes.

4) Use a-squared or ewido (trojan removers).
Will try this if number 3 fails to get the job done.

What do the following items mean?

Section [InetWD]
1. Sleep (Default: 40000 (40 seconds))

Section [UserInterface]
1. ErrorDlgTimeout (Default: 10000)
2. RespondTimeout (Default: 30)
3. VRDBBalloonShown (Default: 1)
4. ScrollResults (Default: 1)

Section [AAVM]
1. SuppressExpirationWarning (Default: 0)
2. NeverShowInfo  (Default: 0)
3. LogDiskChanges (Default: 0)
4. LogStart (Default: 0)
5. GradientStepMsg (Default: 20)
6. GradientStepInfo (Default: 50)
7. EventLogAnalysed (Default: 1)

Which are the values for the old [ODBC] section that are still working?

Thanks for the one which have patience to fill up this  ;)

[InetWD]Define which Internet connection do you have

Sleep40000 Default: 40000 (40 seconds)

UpdatePeriod360 Time (minutes) for update checking. Any value lower than 30 minutes is ignored (both in Home and Profesional versions), i.e., in this case the default value 2 hours (240 minutes) is used instead.

UseRAS0If you have a dial-up = 1; If you have a permanent connection (DSL) = 0

RASWaitSeconds15

AssumeAlwaysConnected0If you have a dial-up = 0; If you have a permanent connection (DSL) = 1. In Home version default is 0. In Network Edition the default is 1.

AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds30Number of seconds to wait before attempting to update. The default is 30 but it may not be enough in some DSL systems. In this case, you can try increasing this e.g. to 60 (1 minute). That should be enough.

So if I want Avast! Home to stop updating every time I turn my PC back on in a day, I would use create "UpdatePeriod" field and then set its value at 1440 (24 hours) ???

Yes.
Or set it into the GUI as I've answered you in the other post you've asked... please, don't post twice the same. Just double the effort to help...
