is stuff like this :

ImapListen=127.0.0.1:143
ImapRedirectPort=143
etc.

still needed in 4.5 now that it uses "a low-level network filtering driver" ??
I've got problems connecting to my IMAP server and am suspecting that Avast listening on port 143 gets in the way ... ??
only thing that helps is completely shutting down the On-access Protection ...

Why don't you change the port listened?
For instance:
ImapListen=127.0.0.1:144
ImapRedirectPort=144

You can disable the IMAP scanning into the Internet Mail provider or MS Outlook plugin...

You won't listen the wave sound  :-\
I don't know a workaround... if you found, I'll be glad to add here.

I really do not want to disable IMAP scanning !!
btw : I'm not using Outlook, but Thunderbird 1.0 ...
it used to work fine with Avast 4.1, but for some reason I can not connect to the IMAP server using 4.5 ; when i start Thunderbird it says 'connected to <server>' but it doesn't ask me for a password, it just hangs. so i think Avast is in some way blocking access ...

Looks like the ImapListen= was blocking access ...

Just completely reinstalled Avast ; there is no ImapListen= in the new avast.ini and Avast now listens on port 12143 (default ?!).

But I can connect to my IMAP server again !!

edit : the defaults for the PopListen, SmtpListen and ImapListen lines now seem to be : 12110, 12025 and 12143 ?!
There are no 'Listen' lines in the newly created 4.5 avast.ini and the file is much smaller than the one 4.1 created ...

Anyway, if you really want to disable the resident protection virus popups (and I'm not saying it's a good idea), put the following line into the [AAVM] section of your avast4.ini file:
ShowVirusTag=0

add this

If you check, it is already there, although it doesn't expand to additional values.

Avoid the displaying virus advice (yellow/red layer that pops up when a virus is found); Show it = 1. A reboot may be required for the changes to become effective.

The default is 1 = show therefore 0 = hide/don't display

Strange... what in particular? I mean, I really don't think there were any bigger changes during 4.1-->4.5 update (except for the mail protection maybe - but even that should work the same when redirection is off).
