Avast wants to install a file?
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:32:45 PM »
Is this O.K.? It appeared recently but I don't know if it's legit:

"The program 2015107 has registered the executable C:/Program Files/Avast Software/Avast/setup/emupdate/2a35e666-5cc8-4034-q94q-8e05d23a3f8c.exe/check to run at system startup. Do you wish to allow this change?"

Thanks for any info.

What program gave you that message?

Should be legit... it's Avast Emergency Update...

Just for clarification though... is it actually giving you forward slashes "/" instead of back slashes "\" ?

No path on your local computer has forward slashes.

Some firewalls will seek permission for the file to connect - WinPatrol Plus is also likely to query a new startup entry.

But this is a legit function of the avast emergency update.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a program called "Startup Monitor" that we've used for years. It always asks for permission to allow changes/installs that want to install to run at start-up.

If the slashes were backwards, I didn't notice (it's been a long day). But it will appear again before long, trying to install. I'll tell it "yes" this time and also notice the slashes just for grins.
