I like my Coffee but Java needs to go.

To completely remove Java from your computer, please see:
How do I uninstall Java on Windows?
How do I uninstall Java 7 on Mac?
How do I uninstall Java on Linux?
Even though these days, it very rarely gets used, I still keep it around. There are still some things that need it.

YouTube Tricks
1. Save a video - add "ss" after "www." and before "youtube".
Wait a few seconds and select download
Example
Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMUm_TOD_1M
Download: https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=aMUm_TOD_1M
Here's the result:

2. Set a Playback Quality Default
Go to: https://www.youtube.com/account_playback
Make your selection:

3. YouTube Repeater of Loop
Simply insert "repeater" right after "www.youtube" or just before ".com"
Single play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMUm_TOD_1M
Repeat/loop: https://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=aMUm_TOD_1M
To learn or meomrize something, repetition can be very helpful:

4. Shortcut Keys (Commands)
Space bar: pause/start
Side arrows: fast-forward and rewind
Number keys: Will send you to different parts of the video. 1 = 10 percent through the video; 2 = 20 percent; etc.
Zero key: Sends you back to the beginning.
Tab key: toggle through various vid commands; the Enter key and up/down arrows will let you control the commands.
Home / End keys: sends you directly to end / beginning.
Once you learn them, they are easier to use than the mouse.

5. Slow down or Speed up a Video:

This can lead to some surprising results

6. Start your Video at a specific time.
Adding #t=XmXs to the end of a video Will start that video at the X-minute and X-second of the video.
Here's an example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMUm_TOD_1M#t=0m38s

7. Embed a Video
You can add a video to your website or Blog
Scroll down right next to Share youl see Embed - Select that.

You can even Email the video to someone.

Just fill in the information and hit the send button.

Checking your Hard Drive Status via Command Prompt
Open a Command Prompt
Use the Windows Key and the R (Run) key - You'll see this:

Next type cmd into the box - It should look like this:

Select OK
You'll now see this:

Now type the following at the blinking cursor: wmic and hit enter. You'll see this:

Finally, type this at the blinking cursor: diskdrive get status and hit enter.
(There is a space after diskdrive and after get) You should now see this:

If it doesn't say OK, find out what to do about the problems it reports.
If it finds serious errors, I'd also get busy and back up my data.
Since this is fairly simple, do this once a week to stay ahead of a Disk Drive Disaster.

The power of the Alt key.
The letters we type depend on the keyboard language assigned.
Sometime you need a letter that's not part of your language.
My title on this forum is "Überevangelist" but, my keyboard doesn't have an "Ü".
Somhow using the accepted substitution of "ue" just doesn't do it justice.
The fix is to hold down the ALT key while typing 0220 on the keyboards Number keypad. (Ü)
Utilizing that little trick makes typing Über Evangelist very easy.
Here is a chart of Alt-Codes that may come in handy:

(Thank to Dave's computer Tips for this information)

Instructions for the Reliable use of System Restore:
Open the Avast User Interface:

Select Troubleshooting >
Make sure the Self Defence Moduale is NOT checked

Once unchecked click on OK and allow the disabling of the Self Defence function.

Open System Properties > Select System Protection:

Make sure that the Protection is set to ON

I find that using Restore Point Creator easier than getting to System Restore in Windows.

It's also packed with many additional functions.
It's simply an easier User Interface for the System Restore function.

While bob3160 recommendation Restore Point Creator is much simpler way than thru Windows here is one that can be setup to require no action.
You can put the VBS file provided in the ZIP to C:\Program Files\Instant Restore Point then go into your Task Scheduler and setup a daily task to launch.

Here are links for W10 & W7..............

I've installed it and tried it but there appears to be a problem.
Although it states that the restore point was created, it is no where to be found.....
Restore Point Creator on the other hand works without any problems.

Mine works fine on both W7 & W10 PCs....have created countless points and even restored from in some case.  Attached are pics.
Note, I do not use the "shortcut" provided in the ZIP.
I just put VBS file in the directory I outlined and point to that VBS file in my Windows Scheduler Task's Actions section.
I'm sure Restore Pt Creator works fine....this is just automated...wanted to give as another option.

UPDATE:

@bob3160, I did look at your Video on Restore Point Creator and noticed an option to create a "schedule a system restore point".
I assume this allows you within this util to schedule a recurring task ? ......basically what I have done above manually with the VBS & Windows Scheduler ?

re post #20:
Instructions for the Reliable use of System Restore:

What followed was a how-to for creating system restore point w/Avast Self Defense turned off, presumably only while the restore point creation is in progress. Based on other posts regarding Avast and recovering to a restore point, the recovery is also more reliably performed w/Self Defense temporarily inactive.

This work-around for Self Defense, while a bit cumbersome, could be seen as a reasonable accommodation to the benefits of the Self Defense feature, especially when the user has control over the timing of Restore Point creation. However, with the arrival of Windows 10, the timing of updates (and their generation of a Restore Point) is no longer always at the immediate discretion of the user.

Is there a known, tested mechanism for minimizing the inactivity period for the Self Defense feature so Windows 10 Update can create a Restore Point w/o Avast Self Defense potentially making it an unreliable recovery option? Or is it known that even if the Restore Point is created w/Self Defense active, the Restore Point can be reliably used by running the restore in some mode of Win RE?

This is just me but system restore is turned off on my computers. It's very dodgy as to whether it will work, has issues with AV programs, not only Avast, and I find that having the restore points causes performance issues due to massive fragmentation that can not be removed. When I want to defrag, I have to eliminate all the restore points first or it doesn't work right. I just do a full system backup on a semi regular basis with AOMEI Backupper which I know works perfectly.
