re post #20:
Instructions for the Reliable use of System Restore:
What followed was a how-to for creating system restore point w/Avast Self Defense turned off, presumably only while the restore point creation is in progress. Based on other posts regarding Avast and recovering to a restore point, the recovery is also more reliably performed w/Self Defense temporarily inactive.
This work-around for Self Defense, while a bit cumbersome, could be seen as a reasonable accommodation to the benefits of the Self Defense feature, especially when the user has control over the timing of Restore Point creation. However, with the arrival of Windows 10, the timing of updates (and their generation of a Restore Point) is no longer always at the immediate discretion of the user.
Is there a known, tested mechanism for minimizing the inactivity period for the Self Defense feature so Windows 10 Update can create a Restore Point w/o Avast Self Defense potentially making it an unreliable recovery option? Or is it known that even if the Restore Point is created w/Self Defense active, the Restore Point can be reliably used by running the restore in some mode of Win RE?
