Mac meet Mal - Mal, this is Mac :(

Fair warning - I am not all too computer savvy. I don't know what information you need, so I'll give it all:

Well after all of the porntube and random browsing in the past 1.5 years, what dobs me in but researching a wrist watch on behalf of my mother earlier tonight.
The moment that I went to this website, the Avast popups came up. And not just one harmless looking one like happens at times, but several multiplying down the righthand side of my screen - "Infection Blocked URL Mal". But no matter how quickly I clicked on these suckers to close them, more popped up.

I cleared my cache, I cleared my history, then did a computer restart and before I even opened a browser, the popups were at it again. I've ran an Avast system scan twice since then, with no infections detected, although it says unable to scan 112. Nothing in the Virus Chest. Under Web Shields activity it says 11 infected files and under history it runs a long list of URLs all with the root of "symcb".
(The massive list of URLs started at about 9:30pm up until 11:43pm and seems to have stopped since then. It's now 1:02am)
I tried a forced power down on my Mac - when I booted it back up again, I still had the issue with the popups. I then removed Safari from the dock and reopened it. So far, I haven't had the popups since then, although it's now hours past my bedtime and I can't quite recall if I've done any other little things since then that would have made the difference. Nevertheless, I want to be sure that the issue is fixed for good. Any recommendations? (Essexboy, Im looking at you)
