Hi ye all,

This is good news. I have used Opera in the past. I may reconsider it. Now I use FF and tweaked it quite a bit security wise, and with various plug-ins. The best news here is the Dr. Web browser pre-scan plug-in is there for OPERA too.
Opera is the favourite browser of the big search specialist F.RAVIA. Go to http://www.searchlores.org , and read all what he has on Opera. It is a lot of good information. If you are not only interested in Anti Malware but in searching expertise as well, you cannot miss his site.

greets,

Yes Ricky, it takes a little getting used to as it's not quite as IE-like as Firefox but once you're familiar, you'll probably never use IE again. Opera's fast and has some good features/tools and now our friend polonus has explained that I can use Dr Web there too I can see Firefox will get even less use. Of course, like all things, it's a matter of personal preference.

I've been using Opera since IE caused me real grief - nasty spyware - so much grief, the shop gave up on my PC and it was the experts here who helped me get it going again. I then switched from Norton to avast! (best move I ever made) from Zone Alarm to Kerio, and use IE only for MS updates. Since I started using Opera I have had NO spyware. NONE! I run all the scanners weekly, but there's nothing to find. Mind you, I'm a safe surfer and just don't go to "those places".

Thank you all for the links and info! Cool that there's always something new to learn!

Happy days to all

Whilst browser selection is very subjective, what might be best for you doesn't mean that it is best for everyone. I never got on with its cranky interface (IMHO) but that was some time ago and things change, but I would have to have a good reason to try it again like disatisfaction with my primary or secondary browsers.

I also much prefer my email and browser to be seperate not part of a package, that way I choose what browser suits me best and what email program suits me best. That is one of the reasons I didn't use Navigator or Mozilla Suite.

So no, I don't think Opera is the best, period... ;D

I can assure you that that statement will not convince any one to use or switch to Opera.
It might cost you a few friends however. ;D

Hey man, that's not always true, you think the security patches that we get from firefox updates are useless?
You should also tell that to the  guys who are making the firefox 1.5 beta.   ;)

Opera has its uses for me, seldom, mostly I use Firefox.
This just came to mind.

A firefox popup javascript window with a link only in plain text. Copy the link and paste to Opera. keeps the windows separated and not Firefox having many windows to select in the bottom bar.

But agreed, otherwise they are too different beasts, have to use one or the other only regularly.

Funny how when a new free program comes along, people dump the one they were using and jump over to the new one and completely ignore the old one.

I think I'll stick with firefox.

You are right xistenz I agree with you  100%.

I will stick with Firefox as this has been the best browser i have used.

I have had Opera installed for about 8 months but rarely use it, just like to use it for a change every so often.

Cheers crofty59

I just installed Opera, first time using it.

Seems quite good  :)

I'll use it for a week and see if it is worth keeping, maybe replacing FF.
