How to remove PerforMax Cleaner by OneBit IT
« on: January 27, 2015, 05:51:36 PM »
Somehow, PerforMax Cleaner by OneBit IT got installed on my computer. Avast Free Antivirus never flagged it or removed it. Can anybody help, please?

Eddy, I appreciate your responding but I am quite dumb about all of this......

Prior to posting here, I did do a Google search and came up with some of the same links you listed in the first link. Even tried a couple but no success.

I'm afraid I am totally lost with what to do and how to do it with the steps to take in your second link. I apologize, I really do but I guess I need more hand holding.

From the second link, follow the instructions for Farbar.

1]
Download the version for your system (32 or 64 bit)
If you don't know what you have, get them both.
Only one wil work.

2]
It creates two log files.
Save them somewhere on your system.

3]
Come back to this thread and click "reply"

4]
Underneath the place where you can type your message, there is the option "Attachments and other options"
Click that and attach the two log files.

Eddy, I appreciate your responding but I am quite dumb about all of this......
No, you just don't know things. That is not the same as being dumb. You followed my "instructions" and you did it correctly. That means you have learned. Only really dumb people don't learn ;)

In C:\AdwCleaner, I found both a AdwCleaner.txt [R0] time stamped at 3:59 pm and AdwCleaner.txt [S0] dated at 4:02 pm. There is no file with a [S1] so am including both of the ones I found.

Upon bootup the final time, when opening IE 10, a window popped up saying something like 'an unknown program is trying to change the default search engine to Bing (from Google). do you want to allow it?" We click 'no' and it (the computer) seems to be functioning ok since.

I cannot thank you both (Eddy and you, essexboy) for your time, effort and guidance.

I'm a (gps) forum moderator here in North America so I'm aware of the time it takes to assist users. Just want you to know I appreciate it. Well, on behalf of my wife, it is her notebook.  :D

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select  Remove Java Runtime.  Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme  ;)

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
