I say no, there's enough antispyware programs already. alwil  should just work on more detections for avast!

You are right there are plenty of antispyware products out. But avast does an excellent job with viruses. If Alwil made an antispyware product that was just as good then they would be a better known company.

I want ALWIL to provide a firewall rather than an anti spyware tool.
Now we have some excellent freewares of anti spyware, so that ALWIL may compete with them if providing an anti spyware.

Recently some firewall vendors were acquired by anti virus vendors.
They are probably thinking that a combination of firewall and anti virus is very important for their future business.

Sygate and Tinny are gone, and Kerio discontinues their personal firewall.
So it is a good timing of providing a new firewall.
Furthermore, ZA Pro still conflicts with avast! Web Shield.
avast's users will use a firewall provided by ALWIL if it has good compatibility to avast! AV.

We can get freewares of both AV and firewall, and ALWIL gets a chance to grow their business.  ;D

avast! can detect a few spywares, but I think avast! should just stay as an antivirus product.

There were some rumors about alwil looking into a firewall but that's for alwil to decide. :)

Sygate just belongs to Symantec, it is still free and where did you get the idea that Tiny is gone?  I just check their website and they still offer their free firewall.   ???

You can just disable the privacy controls on Zone Alarm Pro.  Alot of users here uses Zone Alarm Pro with avast! and they 're having a good time.   ;D

Spyware is just one of the many kinds of malware.
Creating a application that just seeks and delete spyware is like bringing 1 bucket of water to the ocean.

I don't want standalone avast! antispyware.

I want avast! itself to be a Unified Threat Product by detect and eliminate virtually all kinds of malware (viruses, worms, trojans, adware, spyware, phishing, etc.) at the same level of priority, not only emphasize on some kind of malware.

When trojans, adware, spyware, phishing seem to be more and more dangerous and widely spread in to day internet environment, it's not an excuse that antivirus should restricted itself at viruses or worms.

If I want to buy malware protection solutions for workstations in corporate network, I want a single Unified Threat Product that plain/simple/reliable/stable/cheap and extremely easy to deploy/update/manage rather than standalone antivirus, antitrojan, antispyware, personal firewall.....  :o :o :o

The example of Unified Threat Product is Fortinet's FortiClien - http://www.fortinet.com/products/forticlient.html

Haha, gooooood one chocholo !!! Haha...  ;D  ;D  ;D

While we are at that, I recomend Alwil guys open one of those sell-sex sites, and one of those casino sites... of course, they must contain all kind of viruses and trojans, plus millions of pop-ups. Sure it would make Alwil different than any other AV company...  ;D  ;D  ;D

I would say No, they should concentrate their efforts in the specialist AV arena and not try to become a jack of all trades, master of none.

There are numerous freeware antispyware programs so devoting time and effort, not to mention expense to compete with the likes of MS antispyware, AdAware, Spybot S&D, etc. would seem futile and a waste of time and money (that could be better spent on the core product avast! anti-virus).
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security
