Not at all clear from your sig that all your machines are 32-bit.  That does make a difference, especially with older software.
Ok. In the first 3 lines of my sig you see all my machines. And in the 4th you find
--> 'Alle' (german), that means: every machine!!!
(end of 'ot')

Why You Don’t Need an Outbound Firewall On Your Laptop or Desktop PC
http://www.howtogeek.com/172349/why-you-dont-need-an-outbound-firewall-on-your-laptop-or-desktop-pc/

Well I guess you can imaging what I think of that article - you only have to browse the viruses and worms forum to see all of the blocked URL:MAL detections have essentially sailed past inbound protection and in this case it is avast blocking.

Sorry Eddy unless your Hardware Firewall has outbound protection (e.g. software) , then there is no outbound protection as outbound connections are allowed out and subsequent inbound traffic from that outbound call will be allowed right in.

A doorman is all well and good, but if the punter gets in, the doorman doesn't stop punters leaving via the front door.

And I'm having the same daja vu moment when people say outbound protection isn't necessary.

Rather depends on your screen resolution, font size and how big you have your browser window.

I always have been good with math.
As I said, three lines. See attachment.

I was more thinking of already existing threads. Some even years old.

Sorry but the firewall is your first line of defense.  Stating that you only need to arm one side of it doesn't sit well with me.

Just use this "WINDOWS FIREWALL AND AVAST"  :) .

I can't stand a firewall, which doesn't show me that it works.

I can't stand a firewall that'a noisy. I just want one that does what it needs to do and doesn't bother me
except when I requested a notification. Precisely what the Windows Firewall does.
If you want to know if the windows firewall is working, simply check your security settings. :)

Possibly relevant information regarding use of Comodo Firewall as it is a part of Comodo dot com https://www.comodo.com/ software families:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=52252.msg1186776#msg1186776

Post by abruptum Privdog is Superfish all over again   Thanks for the link.

While Privdog may not be a part Comodo Firewall free per se, something to consider.

Well, I started with 'Windows 3.1'. Since then I had to trust every newer version MS celebrated! So my senses sharpened.
What MS-FW really does? I've really big negative experience with Windows and never got any notification! But in spite of that many bad things happened and since I changed to other FW, I'm glad about that.
Only checking the security settings is too easy and not enough!

Complaining about protection that works but isn't intrusive or noisy enough really makes no sense.
Your computer, your choice. I'm quite happy with the quiet but working firewall in Windows 8.1 :)

That's what I found out (in the meantime [since I've a laptop with bigger screen!]).  :-[
